School routines and schedules are well underway. Teachers
are busy getting to know their students and what individual needs
they may require. Our school is busy every night with extra-
curricular activities. Many thanks to those who are volunteering
their time and donating food for our concessions!
Currently our school enrolment is 122 students from Prek to
Grade 12. It is exciting to see all our busy classrooms.
Last spring, students and parents completed Tell Them From
Me surveys. Thank you for all those who took the time to complete
this survey. At the beginning of the year, the teachers met to
review the results of the surveys as well as all the school data
collected from the previous year. The data helped our school
establish our Learning Improvement Plan. This year our LIP is
focused on:
1. By June 2017, 80% of Grades 1-12 students in LCS will score
a level three or four on the provincial writing rubric
assessment.
2. By June 2017, 80% of Grades 1-9 students in Lafleche
Central School will comprehend at grade level what they
read as measured by Fountas and Pinnell (Grade 1-4) and
Basic Reading Inventory (Grades 5-9).
We had our first early dismissal of the school year for Learning
Improvement Teams (LITs) on September 19. Teachers met in their
teams and discussed ideas and set goals related to student
writing.
Our first fundraiser has been an ongoing bottle drive that will
end on October 14 when we canvass the Lafleche Community.
Thank you to everyone who has dropped off bottles, cans, etc.
already.
Our Lafleche School Community Council (SCC) will be meeting
later this week. We will be discussing goals and plans for the
upcoming school year. Thank you to all SCC members who
volunteer their time to be on this committee. Your continuous
support of school events, academic goals and school fundraisers
is very much appreciated.
We are hosting our annual Open House on Thursday, October
20 at 6:30 pm. We have invited members of our senior
administration to join us and help us share information about our

new Student Achieve Progress Reports
(report cards). This new reporting tool will be
used this fall for Grades 1-8 students across
our entire division. At the Open House, you
will also have the opportunity to meet the
LCS staff members, tour our school, discuss
classroom procedures and visit with family
and friends.
We have and will continue to practice fire
drills, lock and holds, and lockdown
procedures, as part of our school safety plan.
Remember if the school is practicing any one
of these drills, parents/guardians are not
allowed to enter/leave the school
depending on what type of drill is taking
place. We want to ensure our parents that if
ever we have a real situation, we will be
contacting them.
On September 7, our students and staff
had the opportunity to meet Mr. Darran
Teneycke, our new school Superintendent.
“Call me Mr. T!” Mr. Teneycke insisted. Mr. T
comes from the Yorkton area, grew up in a
rural setting, and has experience in small
schools. Mr. T toured our school and looks
forward to coming back to visit.
Our school has decided to participate in
the FCC Drive Away Hunger campaign by
collecting donations of food for people who
are hungry in our area. By participating in this
campaign, FCC will include our school in two
draws for a $500 donation to be used to
make improvements at the winning schools.
If you would like to donate, we will be
collecting from October 3 to 11 to support
this program. The FCC will deliver our
donations to the local Food Bank on October
12.
We hope the weather improves so that
everyone can get some fall work done and
our farmers can finish up their harvest.
MILK CARDS Chocolate or white milk will be sold
beginning Monday, September 19

DRIVE AWAY HUNGER
CAMPAIGN
No one should go hungry! When it comes to the basics, food is at
the top of the list. While most of us are
fortunate to have enough to eat, not
everyone is so lucky. In fact, children
make up over a third of those who rely on
Canadian food banks. FCC Drive Away
Hunger is how we can come together as
a community to help feed others. We will
be collecting donations of food (canned
goods, dried food, etc.) for this
campaign up to October 11, 2016. We
thank you in advance and appreciate
your support!
Lafleche Central School
Annual Terry Fox Run
Friday, September 30 LCS students will be asking for pledges for
this very worthwhile cause. Community
members are most welcome to participate in
the walk as well! Your support is greatly
appreciated. Thank you to the Lafleche Credit
Union who will be providing our students with
a hot dog & snacks for lunch that day – order
forms have been sent home with students.
Please return to the school by Thursday,
September 22.

PREKINDERGARTEN
Our Prekindergarten class has enjoyed
learning about different colours throughout
the month. We have particularly liked being
brilliant scientists mixing colours. We figured
out that blue and yellow makes green, red
and blue makes purple and red and yellow
makes orange. Pete the Cat welcomed us at
school for the first day and he continues to
share books with us throughout each week.
Last week we read, Pete the Cat and His
Magic Sunglasses by Kimberly and James
Dean. Our class got to wear cool sunglasses
for the book and we truly felt like we were a
character in the story. We continue to look
forward to more adventures with “Pete” very
soon!

KINDERGARTEN
Our Kindergarten class has been working
extremely hard over the last month at school.
We have been name writing, creating
collaborative books, journal writing and
sorting (colours and shapes), and are
beginning to learn about patterns. Our class
has been talking about “How full is your
bucket?” We have been discussing how to
treat others in a positive manner at home,
school/activities, during sports and in the
community. We want to treat others the way
we want to be treated. Everyone carries an
imaginary bucket over their head and it feels
great when it’s full. We feel down/sad when
our buckets are empty. Our class has a real
bucket that we like to fill when:
- we are kind.
- we are helpful.
- when we show respect.
- when we listen to the thoughts and
feelings of others.
- we are good friends.
The first day of autumn was on Thursday,
September 22 so we will begin to discuss
seasons, weather and adapting to the
environment. We will also be exploring the
colours of fall and all the beauty in our
surroundings and community. We are
learning routines and building relationships in
our PE classes.

GOLF
LCS had a great representation of golfers at the
District Golf meet in Craik, SK on September 10,
2016. For Senior Girls, Jaelynne P. narrowly
missed going onto provincials and came in 4th
place. Our Bantam Boys also did very well.
Brady S. came home with a bronze medal,
Tucker P. and Dayton P. both tied for 4th place
and Luke P. came in 6th place. A big
congratulations to all our golfers and we look

BANTAM BOYS VOLLEYBALL
We hosted our home tournament on
September 24. Lafleche, Gravelbourg High
School, College Mathieu, and Mossbank
competed in a round robin format. It was a
great day of volleyball with evenly matched
teams. The Lafleche Bantam Boys won the
tournament with Mossbank earning the runner
up. We would like to sincerely thank all the
parents who donated food, worked in the
concession and helped to cleanup at the end
of the day. It was greatly appreciated. We
would also like to thank our officials, Kayla H,
Hannah Cook and Mrs. Packet. We have
another home game today against the visiting
Mankota Bantam Mixed team. We are
travelling to Kincaid this weekend for a
tournament; come cheer us on!

Assiniboia for a tournament. On September 21
we had an away game hosted in Mankota.
Last weekend we travelled to Rockglen for their
