What examples of collaboration in your community have pleasantly

surprised you?

Weaving collaboration

• Gather around shared vision and values

• Relationships are the currency - weave ‘invisible threads’

• Shift from an ‘either-or’ to a ‘both-and’ approach

• Focus on ‘with’ instead of ‘to’ or ‘for’

• Start small but take a long term view

“There is no them and us – there is only us”……The Press 2012

Shift from ‘either-or’ thinking to ‘both-and’ thinking

• In each case, a group or idea was created and driven by either individuals or a small group – the Innovators.

• The idea gained momentum due to both the strength of the Innovators and the post-quake context.

• Once the idea had enough momentum, it begin to function in a more mainstream manner.

Take a long term view

Go to the people, Live with them,

Learn from them, Love them,

Start with what they know, Build with what they have, But with the best leaders, When the work is done, The task accomplished,

The people will say, “We have done it ourselves”

What do you love most about this community? What drew you to live in Heathcote? What are you most proud of about Heathcote Valley?

Imagine a time in the future 5, 10, 20 years when people look to the wider Heathcote Valley as an example of a thriving, attractive and sustainable community… What would be happening? What would you be seeing? Hearing? Feeling? Experiencing?

”Heathcote has a BYO Pub based weekly at the local church” “Neighbours meet together for shared meals once a month” “200 houses are fitted with solar heating” “St Marys church has a vibrant childrens programme on Sundays” “Fresh organic fruit and veges are sold in a collective store on the old diary site” “Heathcote Valley school hosts a blossom festival

each year”
