What examples of collaboration in your community have pleasantly
surprised you?

Weaving collaboration
• Gather around shared vision and values
• Relationships are the currency - weave ‘invisible threads’
• Shift from an ‘either-or’ to a ‘both-and’ approach
• Focus on ‘with’ instead of ‘to’ or ‘for’
• Start small but take a long term view

• In each case, a group or idea was created and driven by either individuals or a small group – the Innovators.
• The idea gained momentum due to both the strength of the Innovators and the post-quake context.
• Once the idea had enough momentum, it begin to function in a more mainstream manner.
Take a long term view
Go to the people, Live with them,
Learn from them, Love them,
Start with what they know, Build with what they have, But with the best leaders, When the work is done, The task accomplished,
