1919 - President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11th as Armistice Day to remind Americans of the tragedies of war.

1921 – An unknown soldier was buried in Arlington National Cemetery. He represents all soldiers who died.

1938 - Armistace Day became a federal holiday.

Celebrated with parades

1954 - Congress changed the name of the holiday from Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all United States Veterans.

President Eisenhower signs the bill into law.

Veterans Day Celbrations

At 11:00 a.m. on Nov. 11th the President lays a wreath of flowers at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Taps are played on a bugle.
