BraininHandisanassistivetechnology,usedineducationalsettingstoassisttheusertoovercomebarrierstolearning,andtargetsupportandinterventiontowhereandwhenitismostneeded.BraininHandisidealforpeoplewhosometimesstruggletomakedecisionsaboutandrespondquicklytoeverydaychallenges.Ourusershaveawidevarietyofconditions,includingthosewithautisticspectrumconditions,mentalhealthdifficulties,specificlearningdifficultiesorbraininjury.Inordertoassistyoutodemonstrateto,orestablishthesuitabilityofBraininHandfor,astudentyoucandownloadtheapptoadevice,andlogintoademonstrationaccount.

StudentscankeeptrackoftheirownanxietyusingtheTrafficLightsystemontheirapp(theBraininHandwebsitewillcreateatimelineofallappactivity,forreviewlater).TheycanusetheTrafficLightstosetprompts,recordsuccessesandrequestsupporttokeeptheirdayontrack.

SettingPromptsStudentscansettheBraininHandapptoremindthemtopressontrafficlightsatcertainintervals,tocapturetheirpatternsofhighorlowanxiety,highlightachievementsandpinpointdifficultiesthatmayotherwisebemissed.Whenloggingintotheapp,you’llbeaskedifyouwouldliketoreceiveprompts.Youcanadjustthefrequencyofpromptsbytappingonthe‘Settings’icon .

RecordingSuccessesStudentscanpressonaTrafficLightaftertheyhaveusedasolution,torecordhowwellitworkedforthem,toreinforcepositiveself-managementstrategiesandbetterplantheirtimeaccordingtosuccesses.TheTrafficlightsareaccessibletouseatanytime(atthebottomofthescreen).

RequestingSupportStudentscanrequestadditionalsupportbypressingred.ThiscanbeprovidedbyTheNationalAutisticSociety,orlinkedtoexistingsupportprovision.Havingthis‘safetynet’enablesindividualstohavetheconfidencetoexperiencenewsituations,becomemoreindependent,andachievetheirtruepotential.
