Professor of Agronomy at the University of Ilorin, Gbadebo Olaoye, has enjoined governments at all levels and the private sector
to encourage initiatives that will boost research works in Nigerian universities particularly in the field of Plant Breeding and Genetics, as a way of guaranteeing adequate food production in the country.
Prof. Olaoye, who made this submission while th
delivering the 160 Inaugural Lecture of the University of Ilorin last Thursday (November 12, 2015) at the University Auditorium, noted that food production has become a big challenge due to the dictates and influence of the environment, which impacts negatively on crop growth, survival and productivity, especially against the backdrop of rising world population.
