full-text life science articles, freely available online irrespective of library holdings

The British Library together with the University of Manchester and the European Bioinformatics Institute

The service is hosted by MIMAS, the national academic data centre

Two routes to get manuscripts in to UKPMC:

1. Direct via publisher

e.g. publish in an open access journal

costs associated with ‘open access’ publishing met from research funding

2. Author - upload a copy of the final manuscript via the UK Manuscript Submission System

XML Conversion service suppliers

UKMSS submissions accepted in various formats – mainly PDF and MS Word

Documents are converted to XML using specialist conversion service

Suppliers selected Oct 2006 – contract start 1st Jan 2007

Selection criteria – price, quality, speed, service level
