33mm Photocathode Update
• New photocathode materials have arrived from SAES (K, Na, Cs)
• 33mm disks from B270 should be here (big backlog in receiving aJer UC furlough)
• 33mm disks of B33 (polished) and fused silica in hand
• Clean windows and metalize • Ready to assemble forming well • Load into tank and shoot some cathodes
30 March 2010 J. McPhate – UCB Update 2
FaciliRes Update
• Double barrel chamber now fully commissioned – Dedicated scroll backing pump finally arrived
• “eBay” chamber has arrived – Damaged in shipping
• Phosphor screen detector in fabricaRon – AwaiRng phosphor screens from Photonis – FabricaRng two assembly version (in the shop)
• 2X with PEEK insulators for double barrel chamber work • 1X with Vespel insulators for life tesRng (higher temp capability)
• 2X Vespel‐based 33mm demountable bodies (in the shop) – One for XDL detector, one for phosphor screen ‐ Life Test Setups

eBay Chamber
30 March 2010 J. McPhate – UCB Update 4
• “Door” to be used as 220mm seal test and cathode shoot test chamber
• Remaining, bulk of chamber to be used for vacuum storage of MCPs
• Damaged flange on “door” will be replaced

6mm Rear Field Spacer (Frog)
30 March 2010 J. McPhate – UCB Update 7
We are leaning toward a 6mm rear field gap
• Allows charge cloud spreading over sufficient strips to reduce DNL on charge centroid.
• Similar gap to Planacon and many other convenRonal paberned anode tubes.
• Any adverse effect on TTS can be ameliorated by using 2‐d end spoiling on bobom (eliminate low energy, transverse e‐ from cloud).
• We believe this will actually be similar to 3mm rear field gap for TTS, with sufficient field.
220mm Tube Update
• Quote for ceramic walls at a quanRty of 10. $1125 each. – RequesRng quote for larger quanRRes (20, 100, 1000, …) in thickness for 3mm and 6mm rear
field gaps – Expect cost to go down, but not sure how much. Should receive quotes in the next day or
two.
• Quote for machined Kovar indium cup (no Ni sinter and Cu plate) – QuanRty 10: $667 each! – Ni/Cu plaRng will only add to this cost – Hence pursuing stamped copper version of indium cup
• Quote for stamped OFHC copper indium cups – Compound die (one step cut and form)
• NRE Tooling cost: $8450 • Minimum order quanRty of 100: $12.65 each
– Secondary tooling (two step process; cut, form) • NRE Tooling cost: $4200 • Minimum order quanRty of 100: $22.40 each
– Leaning toward compound die method as vendor is more certain of good product.
