The only ancient wonder that still stands, the Pyramids Pyramids of Egyptof Egypt, are three pyramids at Giza, located outside modern Cairo. It's believed to have taken 100,000 laborers about 20 years to build the pharaoh Khufu pyramid. Many scholars think the pyramid shape was an important religious statement for the Egyptians.

The Statue of Zeus at OlympiaOlympia was made of gold and ivory by the Greek sculptor Phidias in the 5th century B.C. In its right hand the statue held the figure of Nike (the goddess of victory) and in its left was a scepter "inlaid with every kind of metal..." which was topped with an eagle.

The Mausoleum at The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus Halicarnassus was erected by Queen Artemisia in memory of her husband, King Mausolus of Caria in Asia Minor (now Turkey), who died in 353 B.C. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus stood above the city ruins for some 17 centuries.

The Greek sculptor Chares built a giant bronze statue in honor of the sun god Helios. The Colossus attracted ships to Rhodes because, like the Pharos at Alexandria, it was a giant advertisement for the city.
