• Unclear objectives (mixing up priorities of the EU)

• Limited innovation (in the field covered), limited EU added value

• Lack of coherence between project objectives, methodology, design, activities and budget

• Weak partnership + Absence of expertise in the field covered

• Non realistic budget (no coherence with project activities)

• Fake impact and dissemination

Understanding of the process

• Take time to understand how the application process is structured –Documents provided by the EU

• Allow time for drafting and reviewing and redrafting (retro-planning with deadlines)

• Test your draft application outside the partnership

• Time required - a few weeks to more than a year from the concept to finalisation

• Clear, consistent objectives

• For the innovation aspects, check the previous projects financed by the EU in the field covered

• Establish realistic objectives to ensure an appropriate implementation (over 1, 2 or 3 years) :

• Set up a simple design, in line with your objectives and your budget

• Be familiar with the budget constraints

• Find the right balance and diversity of partners

• Share well the repartition of tasks between ALL the partners

• Discuss number & dates of meetings before applying

• It is where the difference is made !

• Don’t mix up your objectives with your ambition

• Be factual, as concrete as possible (describing for example your communication working plan : website, social medias, TVs, etc)

• Don’t forget to show the sustainability of your project

Conclusive remarks

• Ask questions to the EU before the submission of the project (not after)

• And as quickly as possible, all potential partners shall get a PIC (identification) number ! No PIC number, no project

• Be concise ! (the expert doing the evaluation will appreciate… and therefore start your evaluation with a positive approach !)
