2015 BERMUDA GOVERNMENT SCHOLARS
Amber Farrow is currently studying at Newcastle University pursuing a goal of becoming an architect. Apart from academics her hobbies are reflective of her love of the ocean and she has participated as a crew member in sailing races in many different countries. She wants to return to Bermuda one day to assist in creating environmentally sustained buildings whilst retaining the unique and classic architecture of Bermuda.
Kristina Grant has a passion for Veterinary Medicine and in September 2015 will commence her pursuit of a degree in veterinary medicine and science at The Royal Veterinary College. She was so intent on ensuring she had the necessary academics, she successfully taught herself IGCSE Physics in Year 12 and received a grade “A”. She has volunteered many hours at various animal care facilities in Bermuda and looks forward to returning to Bermuda at the conclusion of her studies to give back to the community.
Nicholas Pell received the Outstanding Teen Award for Academic Achievement and for Outstanding Overall Teen 2015. His aim is to study Mechatronics, a combination of mechanical, electrical and computer engineering at the Loughborough University commencing September 2015. He has represented Bermuda in sports having captained the Under 16 Rugby Team and also scholastically as captain of the Debate Team.
Cara Philip will be entering her junior year at Oral Roberts University where she is pursuing a degree in Global Environmental Sustainability. She was the 2013 President of the Bermuda College Literary Society and Student Valedictorian for Commencement 2013 at Bermuda College. At Oral Roberts University she is the Academic Team Leader of Global Leaders Organization. It is her aim to assist Bermuda in reaching its full potential
in sustainable development in the future.
Brianna Siddle is excited to be pursuing a degree in Social Policy and Sociology at the University of Edinburgh in September 2015 with the ultimate aim of obtaining a Law degree so that she may return to Bermuda to join the legal fraternity in service. She has honed her leadership skills as Human Rights Ambassador and House Captain at Warwick Academy. She is focussed and manages to maintain high standards of academics, participates in sports, drama and community service.
Kathleen McBeath received numerous offers to attend university due to her high scholastic achievements and leadership qualities. After much contemplation she has decided she will join Durham University to pursue a Law Degree in September 2015. She is the recipient of the Duke of Edinburgh Silver, Bronze and Gold awards and is also an accomplished pianist working towards ABRSM Diploma in piano performance. Daniel Oatley will be attending the University of Warwick in September 2015 pursuing a degree in Philosophy, Politics and Economics. He has consistently achieved academically, has held various leadership positions; has represented Bermuda overseas in cross-country and cycling; he was awarded the 2015 Bermuda Outstanding Teen in Sport. He looks forward to returning to Bermuda at the conclusion of his studies to make a meaningful contribution to the community.
Alida Ratteray began her studies at Stanford University in 2014 to pursue a degree in Science Technology and Society. She achieved Stanford University Dean’s Award for Academic Excellence for Autumn 2014 and Winter 2015. She has a passion for the Arts and is greatly involved in the arts community at Stanford. She plans to return to Bermuda with the tools to benefit the community that sparked her environmental and artistic enthusiasm from such a young age.
2012 BERMUDA GOVERNMENT SCHOLARS - SPECIAL AWARDS
TASHEL BEAN, is a 2012 graduate of Berkeley Institute. He was Head
Boy, graduating as Valedictorian with Triple Honors. Tashel began studies at the Savannah College of Art and Design in pursuit of a degree in Dramatic Writing. He will graduate June 2016. His goal is to become the first winner of the Academy Award for Best Picture for an animated feature. MARIANGELA BUCCI, is a 2011 graduate of The Bermuda High School. This fall she will begin her studies towards a Bachelor’s Degree in Global Health/Molecular Biology and Bio-Chemistry at Middlebury College, Middlebury, Vermont, USA. Mariangela is an Outstanding Teen Award recipient; co-chair of Round Square Student Executive Committee; and was awarded the King Constantine Medal. TIA LORI SMITH, graduated from the Bermuda High School in 2010 and will be entering her final year at Aston University where she has maintained First Class Honours and is pursuing a BSc Honors degree in Optometry. She wants to return to Bermuda to make a difference and help her peers to appreciate the value of education. RACHAEL WALDRON is a 2012 graduate of Saltus Grammar School. In the Fall of 2012 she began her studies at the University of Guelph to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Veterinarian Science. Rachael’s myriads of extracurricular activities include completion of a Bronze level for Duke of Edinburgh Awards and attending the Rotary Youth Leadership Award Camp. Rachael was selected as Head Girl and Head of the Student Council and House Captain while at Saltus..
2015 MINISTER’S MERIT AWARDS
Lynique Castle will commence study at Durham University to pursue an undergraduate degree in Pharmacy. She was nominated for Outstanding Teen Awards in three categories, volunteers regularly at KEMH and Operation Smiles (autism play group). She completed her Duke of Edinburgh Gold level when she travelled to St. Vincent in 2014 spending 5 days hiking the mountains, community service and teambuilding exercises. She is determined to succeed in University and return to Bermuda to work as a Pharmacist.
Keitha Jade Robinson has completed her first year at Nova Southern University where she is pursuing a degree in Biology on her journey towards her long-term goal of becoming an orthopedic surgeon. She has maintained high academic standards and over the past year has been involved with such organisations as the Health Occupations Students of America, Future Health Professionals and the NSU Caribbean Student Association. She wants to return to Bermuda and make a meaningful contribution to better healthcare in Bermuda. Tamae Clarke attends California State University where she has completed the first year of her Undergraduate degree in criminology with a minor in communication. She has achieved the Duke of Edinburgh Silver and Gold Awards, is very invested in the fashion industry, is a member of her debate team and volunteers with many helping organisations in Bermuda and California.
