From the Principal’s desk…
After two days away from school, it almost
feels as if it’s the start of the week for me today.
This week has been particularly busy with a
number of professional learning opportunities
for staff. On Tuesday, I attended the Term 2
Griffith Principal Network meeting. This is a
great opportunity to network with other
Principal’s to share ideas and find out what’s
working well for others. Yesterday, Mr Dodhy,
Mrs Parkinson and myself attended the PBL
Classroom Systems Training in Griffith. This is
in preparation for bringing PBL into the
classrooms. On Monday, Miss Perryman and
Mrs Cooper attended a ‘Challenging Students’
workshop. This gave them some positive
strategies for when students are displaying
challenging behaviours, which they will share
with staff. This week, Mrs Jackson is
continuing her Primary Industries training
with a week of professional learning in Dubbo.
Miss Imrie and Mrs Henley began their LMBR
training this week in West Wyalong. This will
continue every fortnight for the remainder of
the term.
At the end of last term, we received news that
Mrs Hanrahan had received a transfer to West
Wyalong High School. Mrs Hanrahan has been
a very valuable member of our staff for the past
seven years and we are very sad to see her go.
Mrs Henley will now be in the front office from
Monday to Thursday each week.
Thank you to those families and community
members who attended our ANZAC Assembly
last week. I’m sure you’ll agree that the hall
looked outstanding due to the student work on
display. I was particularly impressed with the
writing that was read out by Years 3-6 and the
music performed by a selection of Mrs
Roscarel’s music students. Well done to those
students who were involved in reading the
book “Flapper”. It was interesting to hear
about the role of pigeons in war. Outstanding
effort by all! A special congratulations to David
Clarke, who received the Reg Rattey Award,
which was very well deserved.
Next week, 22 students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9
will be completing the National Assessment
Program – Literacy and Numeracy
(NAPLAN). Those students involved will be
having a BBQ lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday next week, at no cost. There will
be a catch up day on Friday for any
assessments missed during the week, for
example if students are sick. If you require any
further information, please contact me at the
school.
Until next week,
Terrie Payne

It is important that students are at school on time, well-rested and ready to go.
On Wednesday the P&C will be conducting their Mother’s Day Stall at lunchtime. A great time to
pick up last minute gifts.
Nadine, from the Red Cross, will be visiting our school on Friday next week to educate students on healthy eating. These nutrition sessions are
always informative and interesting.

SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
On Thursday 27th April, Angus Williams, Josh Roscarel,
Ryan Crofts and Tom Roscarel attended the CHS U15’s AFL
Riverina-South West trials in Narrandera. A record 91
boys trialled (below). Josh, Ryan and Tom were successful
in making the ‘Possibles/Probables’ team of 36 but
unfortunately didn’t make the final team selection.
ANZAC ARTWORK
Sensational artwork from
students in Kinder to Yr 6
and Years 7 and 8 adorned
the walls of classrooms
and the UCS hall in the lead
up to ANZAC Day. This
work provided a wonderful
backdrop for our ANZAC
Service.

PSSA NETBALL
What a great display of sportsmanship and netball skills by our young netballers on Friday 28th April. Ungarie played
West Wyalong in the first round of the PSSA Knockout. Our girls went down 26-4, but the score certainly wasn't
indicative of the play. .
Audrey, Regan and Kate worked hard to deflect and intercept the ball in defence. Hayley worked tirelessly in attack
and as GA, helped feed the ball to Lara in the goal ring. Ella, Allora, Caitlin and Hannah moved the ball down the court
into attack, often weaving their way around their older and much taller opposition.
Well done girls, you tried so hard. Thank you to Mrs Potter, Mrs Rossiter, Mrs Wallace and Mrs Bryant for assisting on
the day. (Mrs Wilson)
