A Christmas Prayer By St. Bernard of Clairvaux
Let your goodness, Lord, appear to us, that we, made in your image, conform ourselves to it. In our own strength we cannot imitate your majesty, power and wonder; nor is it fitting for us to try. But your mercy reaches from the heavens, through the clouds, to the earth below. You have come to us as a small child, but you have brought us the greatest of all gifts, the gift of eternal love. Caress us with your tiny hands, embrace us with your tiny arms, and pierce our hearts with your soft, sweet cries. Amen
New Year Prayer Dear Lord, We pray that this New Year will bring us closer to You. May we take the time to get to know You. Help us to truly celebrate the gifts You have graciously given us and use them to serve You and spread Your word. May we also see and love You in all the people we meet, so that in turn, they can see You in us. We know that all human re-lations take time if they are to grow and deepen. This is also true of our relations with You, the Father and the Ho-ly Spirit, which must grow over the course of our lives. In this new year, let us realize that every action of ours no matter how great or small enables us to be in touch with You. Let us accept You in our lives, in the way it pleases You, as Truth, to be spoken, as Life, to be lived, as Light, to be lighted, as Love, to be followed, as Joy, to be given, as Peace, to be spread about, as Sacrifice, to offered among our relatives, friends, neighbors and all people.

Upcoming Events Prayers Please
From the New Year’s Desk of Fr. Bill
My deepest gratitude goes out to all who have sent Christmas cards, letters, food and pictures! There is no way I can eat all those candies and cookies by myself; so I must rely on the rectory staff to help me; no one said that working at the rectory would be easy! I have a hard time be-lieving the year 2018 soon comes to an end! Looking ahead to the new year; one of the goals is
for a safe completion to the St. Mary’s painting project, it is a huge undertaking because of the special product that will be applied to hold the plaster in place for the next 50 years. I ask all to please be atten-tive to the bulletin as to where the daily mass is scheduled throughout the upcoming weeks. There will be some jumping around; and if there is a funeral, if possible, we are going to stay away from using the high school gym and disrupting the school schedule. My hope is that the new year will bring with it many blessings and graces for all of our families. I thank Fr. Murray and Deacons Jerry and Rick for their minis-try in serving the good people of this area. To our staffs at Holy Name parish and St. Mary’s parish and schools; you are the best! God bless! Fr. Bill.
Lexi Harpenau and Olivia Schroeder will be joining the Gehlen Cath-olic Mission Honduras team this year and will be traveling to Honduras in March. They ask for your prayers over the next few months as they prepare for and carry out their mission work. The weekends of January 12th, 13th 19th and 20th; Lexi and Olivia will be selling $25 raffle tick-ets after Mass by the concession stand area to help with projects in Honduras. Thank you for your financial support and especially for your continued prayers.
What a Better Way to Give a Christmas gift or ring in the New Year for a loved one than with a Mass intention said for them. St. Mary’s and Holy Name are currently in need of more Mass intentions at this time. We have updated our policies. We now accept 12 Mass inten-tions at one time. To reserve an intention(s), you can drop your request in the collection basket, in a separate envelope marked Mass intention. Include your name, phone number and payment along with your loved ones name(s) and date(s). Or you can call Remsen’s rectory at 786-1437, Marcus’s rectory at 376-2628 or stop by the rectory offices dur-
ing business hours. Current cost is $10 per intention.
Poinsettias for St. Mary’s Church, ****Due to church painting, poin-
settias can be picked up after Mass on January 1, 2019.
End of Year Giving: With the year end approaching, there are two options available to ensure that your contribution will be deductible for 2018 taxes. 1) If mailing, make sure the envelope is postmarked by Monday, December 31. 2)
Drop your contribution in the collection basket during the weekend Masses of December 29th or 30th or on New Year’s Eve Mass on De-cember 31. To comply with the federal law, we cannot accept dona-tions in 2019 for the 2018 tax year.
St. Mary’s rectory will be closed on Monday, December 31, whereas, Holy Name’s rectory will be open 8:00-2:00 PM.
RSM Activity Club is looking for donations of hamburger. Please contact Judy Koenck at 541-3482. Thank you in advance.
The showcasing of Holy Name Church’s organ will be Sunday, De-cember 30, at 2:00 PM. The organ was renovated this past summer and Steve Smith and others are going to play seasonal and sacred music for our church. The CDA ladies are sponsoring the enjoyable afternoon. Cookies and bars along with a drink will be served after the
program. Mark your calendars to attend this great event.
Theology on Tap will be Saturday, January 12. The evening will begin with 4:00 PM Mass at St. Mary’s Church. Burger bar with top-pings and fries for $10 will be served from 5:15-6:15 PM at the Remsen Golf Course/Klein on 9. Our catholic speaker, Sr. Fidelis Marie, OSB, will begin speaking at 6:30 PM. RSVP to Kris Schiltz by Thursday, January 3, to either 540-1655 or schiltzk@rsmschools.org. Call or
email soon as there is limited seating.
RSM Activity Club will be hosting a Soup and Sandwich Supper on Friday, January 11, during the Gehlen Catholic basketball game from 4:30 - 7:30 PM in the MS/HS cafeteria. Carryouts will be available,
please call 786-1433 to place your order.
Due to the Church being painted, starting the weekend of January 5 and 6, 2019, weekend Masses will be at St. Mary’s Lorne Nilles Memo-
rial Gym. Volunteers are needed to help set up before the 4:00 PM Mass and help with the take down after the 8:00 AM Mass. Set up will begin around 2:30 PM on Saturday. To volunteer please call St. Mary’s
rectory at 786-1437.
