A Mother’s Day Prayer
Loving God, You wrap your arms around your people and show your everlasting love in the same way a mother loves her children. We are grateful for the love you have taught us through the mothers in our lives: our own mother who brought us into this world, the mothers of friends who have welcomed us into their homes and families, our grand-mothers who took time for us, and the moth-ers who have helped us even though we were not their children. Bless all the mothers of this world today. May they know the full-ness of love they have shared and be blessed every day of their lives. Amen
Please pray for the following people: Han-nah Harpenau, Eli Biezuns, Jameson Heidesch, Emily (Ehrig) Sideris, Linda Har-ris, Rosemary Wibe, Mike Thiel, Lance
Pierce, Ron Schmillen, Steve Reistoffer, Bev Stoos, Nathan Galles, John Pedersen, Barb Brady, Marge Schiltz, Diane Offerman, Quinn Goodburn, Meg Alesch, Joe Vollmecke, Pat Har-nack, Betty Seggerman, Joan Cronin & Michael Erdman.

CARES Act Charitable Giving Information for the rest of 2020
1. The new law temporarily suspends the requirements for re-quired minimum distributions (RMD) for the 2020 tax year. Many donors use their RMD to make a gift from their IRA. If a donor is 70.5 or older, they can still make a gift from their IRA or name us as a beneficiary. In addition, there are some new ways you can receive financial benefits and help organizations like us.
2. The new law allows all taxpayers to take a charitable deduc-tion of up to $300, even if you do not itemize. You might think this is a small amount and would not make a difference. But what if all our donors gave “just” $300? Such support would have a huge impact on us!
3. For those who do itemize their deductions, the new law allows for cash contributions to qualified charities such as ours to be deducted up to 100% of your adjusted gross income for the 2020 calendar year.
As always consult with your tax professional about your charita-ble giving decisions, especially with these new provisions from the CARES Act.
Mothers hold their children’s
hands for a short while, but their hearts forever.

From the Desk of Fr. Bill
In this month of May we have the blessing to thank God for the gift of our Mothers. We all have a spiritual Mother in Mary and a human mom, be they with us now, or for some whose mom has gone ahead to the next part of life. Please enjoy this true story about a Mother’s sacrificial love: On Sunday, August 16, 1987, a Northwest Airlines flight 225 crashed just after taking off from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport. One hundred fifty-five peo-ple lost their lives. One survived with injuries: a 4-year-old from Tempe, Arizona, named Ce-celia. News accounts say when rescuers found Cecelia, they did not believe she had been on the plane. Investigators first assumed Cecelia had been a passenger in one of the cars on the highway onto which the airliner crashed. But when the passenger register for the flight was checked, there was Cecelia’s name. “Cecelia survived because as the plane was loos-ing altitude, Cecelia’s mother Paula, unbuckled her own seat belt, got down on her knees in front of her daughter, wrapped her arms and body around Cecelia and then would not let her go.” A true model of sacrificial love; what ever it took to save the life of her daughter. A great example of the love that God has for each of us. May God bless you on this special Mother’s Day! Fr. Bill
Mass Intentions can still be requested, even with the rectory offices closed. Here are a couple ways to schedule your request. You can call your respective rectory office at either 786-1437 or 376-2628 or mail in your request with your payment of $10. If mailing in your intention(s) please write who the intention(s) is for, the date(s) and phone number to contact you if there are any questions.
Together As One Campaign is still going strong. We know that there has been much sadness, because we cannot pray and celebrate together in the pews at either St. Mary’s, Holy Name or St. Catherine at this time. However, we should feel thankful for Fr. Bill, Deacon Rick, Deacon Jerry and staff throughout the Faith Communities of Remsen, Mar-cus and Oyens, who are reaching out to others to make sure they are not feeling isolated, as well as providing resources for prayers and online liturgies in these difficult times. As of Thursday, May 7, St. Mary’s has met 69% of their goal and
Holy Name as met 57% of their goal. Together as One Campaign ends on Monday, June 15. Let’s help St. Mary’s reach 75% and Holy Name reach 60% by this date. Ways you can make your contributions are: 1. Mail in your contributions or 2. Go to the Diocese website at www.scdioces.org, click on the giving tab and click on Together As One.
St. Mary’s Recycling accepts all size cardboard and all types of paper including farm herbicide and insecticide boxes (without chemical spills); livestock boxes and untreated feed sacks without plastic. St. Mary’s Recycling can be found on the extreme north end of Marion Street in Remsen. St. Mary’s Recycling is also collecting cardboard and styrofoam egg cartons for the food bank.
