Calendar (Time Management)
My example• 168 hours in a week (24 * 7)• 41 hours @ work• 6.25 hours commuting• 7 hours bathing/dressing/grooming• 5.25 hours eating (15 min/meal, 3 meals)• 5.25 hours cooking• 46.5 hours of sleep (bad Jess!)• 56.75 hours for mind/body/soul/social balance,
chores & obligations, community building/organizing…and playing on Twitter/FB
Your best friend• Grid-based calendar
o Displays “blocks” of timeo Offline (paper) or online
• Block out essential activities• Schedule your “personal time”• Schedule your “project time”
Your other best friend…
A Deadline!!!This gives you a date
that you can procrastinate towards ;)
Word to the wise• Limit yourself to 1 major deadline in a week
(Work, personal, or otherwise)
5 Keys to survival• A calendar• Lists• More lists• A Rolodex (aka “Little Black Book”)• A life
Why have lists?• Necessary actions
(vs. extra ‘fluff’)• Less likely to become
distracted by side-items
• Less likely to procrastinate
Why have MORE lists?• Delegation (who does what)• Future ideas• “Dead pool” (ideas that don’t work now, but could
work later)
