Key Course Goals: • Compose well-structured essays and reports for diverse purposes and
audiences• Compose information-based documents using appropriate research
strategies• Utilize strategies necessary to deliver oral presentations
We will meet these goals through classroom activities, practice exercises, group work, writing assignments, and research projects. In this course, you will be expected to engage in the material through homework assignments, classroom discussions, and written submissions. It will feel challenging at times, but I hope it will also be interesting!

English Department Items You Should Remember
• Each assignment has a Late-Paper Policy that will be enforced.
• When a student misses class, he/she should notify the instructor in advance to make arrangements. If an emergency occurs making that notification impossible, he/she should contact the instructor within 24 hours of missing class to inform the instructor of the absence and make any necessary arrangements. Note: Assignments completed and graded in class for participation points cannot be made-up. Missing significant amounts of class time (more than three days in a semester) is likely to impact a student’s ability to succeed.
• If a student has a concern or needs additional help, the first step is to schedule an appointment with the instructor.
