Sight Words
was said they who what when where why
Read the sight words and practise writing the words every day. If you
have a whiteboard and pen at home, then practise writing the
words like we do at school, e.g. read, write, rub off (do this 3 times
for each word). If you don’t have a whiteboard, you can use some
paper and a pencil.

Year 1
This week we are going to focus on subtraction. In the box below
write everything you know about the subtraction operation. It might
be what you think it means, a symbol or a picture of what you think
subtraction is.
To solve subtraction problems, you need to put the larger number in
your head and count backwards.
Can I write my
answer on the
other side of the
equal sign?
Let’s do this one together, 12 - 4
I’m going to put 12 in my head
and use my fingers to jump back
4 places.
1st jump: you jump from 12 to 11
2nd jump: jump to 10
3rd jump: jump to 9
4th jump is jump to 8.
So, 12 - 4 = 8
Answer the questions below
using the counting back strategy. There is a number line to help you
if you need it.
Natalia found some old coins on the playground and put them in
her pocket to show the teacher. She lost some on the way, how
many does she have left now. Draw the jumps on the number line
to help you.

mistake is, we can help you learn. As you get older, you will get marks
for working out. Showing your working out is a good habit to get into.

WALT
We are learning
to sequence
events after
reading.
Success Criteria
Can I look and
talk about what
is happening in
each picture?
Can I put the
events in order?
Can I write a
sentence about
each event?

Watch and listen to the story of The Three Little Pigs being read aloud
using the link/QR code or log in to Epic Reading to read it yourself.

for Children
https://video.link/w/B5o5c
After reading the story, use the picture cards at the
end of today’s work to order and sequence the
events of the story.
Good readers sequence events by putting the events in order of
them occurring.
You need to look at each picture carefully and think about what is
happening in each picture and then glue the card down in order
from beginning to end.
Bonus: Write one or two sentences about what is happening in each
picture.
English- Writing
WALT
We are learning
to plan our
ideas in order of
events.
Success Criteria
Can I list key
ideas in order of
events?
Can I list the
characters,

Can I use
adjectives to
describe the
characters,
setting and
events?
Can I use verbs
to show action
or how
something
happened?
The Three Little Pigs- Retell
You are going to retell the story of The Three
Little Pigs. Before retelling the story you must
plan your ideas by writing down the key
details that happened in the story. Good
writers plan their ideas using key details to
help them retell the story correctly.
You might like to use your sequencing sheet
from the Reading activity to help you.
On your planning page, list:
- Main characters
- Setting (when and where did the story take place)
- Problem
- Solution (how was the problem solved)
Remember to include:
- Adjectives (words to describe the characters, events or
problem)
- Verbs (words to show an action or how something happened)

what he is wearing and what is in
his hands.
What do you see?
He is making pizza dough, what do you know about pizza dough?
Do you know what ingredients are used, and how it is made?
Note: Some materials can be changed by using different actions,
for example; bending, stretching and twisting.
Please ask a parent, carer or older sibling to use this QR code to
watch a short video on making rainbow candy.
Complete the activity below, you will need to write a sentence
below for each bubble:
I see: write something you saw happening in the video
I think: write something you think is happening or an explanation to
something you saw in the video.
I wonder: write a question you would like answered or something you
thought about while watching the video.
To bend, stretch and twist a material it needs to be flexible or elastic.
Some materials like the candy, need to be warmed up so they
become flexible.

Balloon Volleyball
Blow up a balloon. If you don’t have one play this game outside with
any medium sized ball you may have. Make sure you do this in an
empty and clear space.
Divide players into two teams and get them to hit the balloon to
each other. The goal is to keep the balloon from touching the
ground as long as possible. If you only have one child, challenge
them to keep the balloon up as long as they can.

WALT
Salvador Dali: Tall Birds
Let’s create some great artworks inspired by Salvador Dali.
We are learning
how artists have
intentions that
affect the look
of their work.
Watch the video or follow the steps below to learn how to create an
artwork inspired by Salador Dali’s famous elephant paintings! The
focus in these famous paintings was the animals and their extremely
skinny and long legs.
We are going to be drawing birds today. Watch this video to begin:
https://video.link/w/BRF4c
Materials:
● Piece of paper
● Pens and colouring pencils
● Watercolours (optional)
Instructions:
1. Using a pencil, follow the steps below to draw a bird on your piece
of paper. Position your bird body at the top of the paper so you
can draw its long legs once you have finished drawing the body.
2. Once you have finished drawing the body, draw long skinny legs
down to the bottom of your paper.
3. Outline your bird with black pen.
4. Colour your bird using bright colours.
5. If you have watercolours you could paint the background using
a different contrasting colour.
Tip: If using watercolour, do this step before using your pens to outline
and colour to avoid the ink smudging.
