Trade name: white siris.Family: Leguminosae.Description:- Albizia procera is a fairly large, deciduous, straight-stemmed tree, usually attaining a height of 18-24m & girth of 1.2 to 1.5m, the bark of this tree is smooth, yellowish red inside, leafs bipinnate,30-45 cm long, seeds are 6-12 per pod hard & greenish brown in colour.

The trees found throughout the sub-Himalayan tract from the Yamuna eastwards to Bihar, entire north-eastern India, central India, throughout the Indian peninsula and north Andamans.

Distribution..

Climate: it grows well from 10-4c temperature and 100-5000 mm rainfall.• Soil: It prefers clay moderately alkaline soil, saline soils. The tree occurs cheaply in most places along river banks, ravines and flat undulating ground or hill slopes upto an elevation of 600 m.

SITE FACTOR...

The tree is light and high crown, the tree become during Apr-June on depend upon the locality and new leafs emerged from Apr-May, flowering takes place June-Aug, Pod formation takes place soon after flowering. The fruit ripen from Feb-Apr.

Phenology..

The tree is a light demander and can’t be tolerate suppression.

It is frost tender species and capable to produce coppice and root sucker

The species is moderately resistant to saline and alkaline conditions.

SILVICULTURAL CHARACTER..

Natural regeneration in A.procera is better than A.lebbeck

The seeds are produce abundantly every year, and wind dispersed. germination takes place when plentiful moisture.

Artificial regeneration: regenerated by direct seed sowing, stump planting, and nursery raised entire plants.

Regeneration..

Seeds are sown in Apr-May in drills spaced 7.5cm*7.5cm.

The depth of sowing is generally 10 to 15 mm.

No special treatment is required except light watering for about a week.

Germination starts in 3-4 days The plants are about 15 cm high when

they are considered fit for planting out.Seedling are placed under shade and

watered atleast once every two days.

Nursery technique..

The young trees of Albizia procera of 15-20 years old are attacted by highly bark and stem disease

The infection starts through the infection courts caused by deciduous branches and extend upto 2-4 m in length on the stem

Pests and

diseases..

Properties of wood: sapwood is wide white, heartwood golden brown.

It is slightly light in weight than A.lebbeck.

The timber is strong, elastic, tough and hard.

Timber is reported to be stronger than burma teak

Utilization..

It is valuable timber for general house construction, and agricultural implements, tool handles, packing cases etc.

The bark is used for tanning.It yields a good fodder readily eaten by cattle, sheep, goats and camels.
