What are direct objects? • Completes the action of a verb• Answers WHOM or WHAT about the verb• Nouns frequently used as direct objects

• Example: Lloyd and Christian played soccer in the backyard with a grapefruit pulled from a tree.

• Subject: Lloyd and Christian• Verb: played• Direct Object: soccer

What are indirect objects? • Tells to whom or to what or for what• Used only with a direct object• Appears between the verb and the direct object• Usually found with verbs of giving or communicating like

give, bring, tell, show, take, or offer

• Example: Jackie wrote Kelly a note during class.

• Subject: Jackie• Verb: wrote• Direct Object: a note (wrote WHAT?)• Indirect Object: Kelly (for WHOM?)
