2012: HIV IS STILL AN ISSUE
350 lakh people are infected with HIV worldwide
More than 96% are in low and middle income countries- in
Asia and Africa
India has 25 lakh people infected with HIV- stands third after
Sub Saharan Africa and Nigeria
Still 26 lakh new infections occur every year around the world
and 18 lakh deaths from HIV/AIDS.
6000 young people are dying of HIV every

world.
Of 7-8 lakh registered cancer cases every year, 40% are of
oral cancer. Annually 130,000 people succumb to oral
cancer in India.
60 to 80 % present in advanced stage.
14 people, mostly young, die of oral cancer
every hour.
Diagnosed early, these premature deaths are
preventable
