How to attend our Classes 1.) Dial in using the following information either from your desk or conference room:
888-363-4734Access Code: 5973827
2.) Join our GoToMeeting using the information sent in our invite email.*
*It is a good idea to setup GoToMeeting prior to our class because it will take about 5 min to download and install the program.
Please do not put your phone on hold when connected to the conference call number; it makes an annoying beeping sound.

Revit Learning Series Intended Audience
Getting the Basics
Best to Start Learning with Revit in front of youTalk with your team leader about getting a one on one trainer
If someone in your office has a lot of Revit experience set aside one day for a one on one sessionRemote one on one session with experienced BIM manager (GoToMeeting)
If a BIM manager is not available or several team members need training at once:
3 Day training session (Ideate, AEC Factory)Discuss a time with your team leader and contact Spivey (x7236)

MEP Central.rvt
Why a Central File?
AutoCAD Project Revit Project
One Revit file houses all of your sheets
Revit Project Folder Structure
Arch models (xrefs) are located in the '_LINKS' folder
MEP Central.rvt
Opening a Revit Central File
1. Select the file to open & how you wish to open the fileDetached from centralCreate a new local copy (Using Central File Sync)
2. Specify Worksets to open3. Chose to Append or Overwrite Local Copy
Three Possible Ways to Open a Central File
Open Your Local Copy
Double Click on the Central File
Create New Local Copy of Central File
We don't double click in Revit. If you open the central file this way, when ever you save your file it will overwrite any work synced to the project. We never to this.
We found that opening you local copy will work 99% of the time. But in large projects where multiple people are working on a central file, this is not the best way to open the central file.
Always opening a fresh copy of Revit will reduce your chances of crashing or corrupting the central file.
Best Way!
Opening a Revit Central File
Keep Checked
Choosing Worksets
Worksets let you open only what you want.
Worksets Functionality
Similar to AutoCAD layers, Worksets contain information that may be turned on and off.
Appending the Time Stamp
A good way to keep backup files
Local Copy is in Your Documents Folder

Borrowed Element Example
Borrowed Elements: The Diffuser Example
User 1 Moves the Diffuser
User 1 Has Now Borrowed This Element
User 1 Clicks on the Diffuser and moves it.
His name is now added to the Edited by property of that element.

User 2 Moves the Diffuser
User 2: Borrowed Element Warning
The name of the person who has borrowed this element.
We will cover how this works, in another class. Call the person who has borrowed the element and ask them to sync to central.

Sync to Central
Save vs Sync
Once your local file is synced with the central file your changes are safe. The longer your changes reside on your local copy, the greater the chances these changes will be lost.
Classic Revit Crashes
Can't Sync With CentralAn unrecoverable error has occurred.A fatal error has occurred. The application will be terminated.Central File is Corrupt
Solutions:Save a new local copy to desktop:
1. Open the central file from the network2. Use 'Save As' to make a new local copy on desktop3. After save completes, sync to central
Increase available computer resourcesCreate a new central fileContact your BIM Manager or email the BIM/CAD group
Workshare Monitor (Revit Addin)
Lets you see who is inside the central fileTells you when someone is syncing to central

Revit Central File Summary
Never double click when working with RevitAlways create a new local copy of the central fileSave Local often. Sync when idle / closing the file (end of day) (sync at least 2 times a day)Always work in separate Worksets
