Key Club International truly is an international organization, with branches in over 30
nations across the globe! This year’s annual District Convention theme is
“Destination: Service.” As such, each division has been assigned a country to repre-
sent them at the convention. This will be the identifier for where to sit during conven-
tion and such. Division 16 has received the country of Thailand!

Introducing...Your new Division 17 Lieutenant Governor Elect
Jae Shin
Hi my name is Jae Y. Shin and after District Convention, I will be the LTG of
Division 17! (Don’t worry about what the Y stands for). I’ll just talk about a few of
my interests and my plans as soon to be lieutenant governor. I am currently a junior
at Tenafly High School and I love to do almost everything but my main interests
(other than Key Club) would be music, art, fitness and of course, eating. Once fully
established into position, my first plan is to attempt visiting each of the school’s
within the division to check out the Key Clubs. This is going to be incredibly diffi-
cult because some school’s will try to place a restraining order on me should I come
unannounced. My ultimate goal is to be able to convince the specialized school
boards to permit their Key Clubs to be in contact with International and of course
to strengthen the division as a whole by promoting communication between the
clubs in general. I can’t wait to work with you all!

Key Club Scholarships 2014
Scholarships are awarded to senior Key Clubbers who exemplify dedication to serving the chil-
dren of the world and uphold the objects of Key Club International during high school. The over 15
available scholarships range from $1000 to $2000. Applicants only need to apply once to be eligible
for all of the scholarships.
In order to apply, download the complete Scholarships Packet at:
http://njkeyclub.org/
Fill out the Application Information Sheet. On a separate sheet of paper, list involvement in
Key Club projects. Then, provide a summary of any outside service. On a separate sheet of paper,
give a brief description of your most important academic or extra-curricular achievement unrelated to
Key Club. Write a two-page essay about a memorable Key Club Service Project. All of the above
should be typed or hand-written in blue or black ink neatly. Obtain letters of recommendation and re-
member no letter may be from a family member. Have an advisor fill out the Advisor Verification
Form. Refer to the packet for complete instructions.
Mail this entire packet by February 14th, 2014 to the address listed below. Once the applica-
tions are received, a committee of Kiwanians reads through the applications. The main criteria these
Kiwanians focus on are that the entire packet is complete, the essay, and the letters of recommenda-
tion.
The essay and the other descriptions are the applicant’s opportunity to tell the committee who
he/she is, what he/she has done in and out of Key Club, how he/she got involved, his/her motive for
doing community service, and how he/she benefitted from the service. These personal portions of the
packet are where the applicant can show how Key Club has developed the applicant’s leadership skills
and how the applicant has benefited from the leadership opportunities that Key Club provides, such as
Key Leader.
Please feel free to contact Elizabeth Wallace with any questions or concerns. Mail the packet
to:

One benefit of using your news-
letter as a promotional tool is
that you can reuse content from
other marketing materials, such
as press releases, market studies,

While your main goal of distrib-
uting a newsletter might be to
sell your product or service, the
key to a successful newsletter is
making it useful to your readers.
A great way to add useful con-
tent to your newsletter is to de-
velop and write your own arti-
cles, or include a calendar of
upcoming events or a special
offer that promotes a new prod-
uct.
You can also research articles or
find “filler” articles by accessing
the World Wide Web. You can
write about a variety of topics
but try to keep your articles
short.

full circle with District Convention approaching soon. I urge all clubs to attend this event. I
have already sent out the packets with the corresponding information of how to register along
with links of promotional Facebook Coverphotos and Profile Pictures. Utilize these resources
as you please. Here is a quick list of things about things that you can do before the actual Dis-
trict Convention:
There are several contests to enter for including: A Talent show, Oratorical and Impromptu

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
Hi Everyone!
Thank you all for taking the time to read my fifth edition of QuirKEY. I hope that you all enjoyed it! After reading through the basic descriptions of all the positions, you still have questions feel free to contact me at ltgerik@gmail.com or any other form of communication that is comfortable for you. Also, you do not have to be an officer of your Key Club to run for Lieutenant Governor or District office. Any passionate member is eligible and encouraged to run. Before the elections I would also like to plan club visits so I will be emailing you all soon about that. Look for-ward to my next newsletter issue and as always, have a splendiferous day!
