What type of media institution might distribute your
media product and why?
The type of media institution that might distribute my media product is IPC media. This is because it distributes the indie magazine “NME”, and I have used this magazine to compare to mine. I have used the same sort of images, fonts, layout and language that is used in NME to relate to this publishing company.
Some of the other products that IPC media distribute are:
Essentials
Look
TV Times
Teen Now
Decanter
Cycling
Motor boat
Nuts
Living etc
Country Life
There are a variety of different audiences that IPC media would appeal to. They distribute a wide range of magazines to try to appeal to as many different ages and both genders of people. The audience that I researched was the NME target audience. This audience was young adult males of the social class ABC1 who are interested in music and life stories of famous musicians.
The audience that my product appeals to is the same as the one that NME media magazine appeals to. I have chosen a younger male target audience and used language and a variety of images to appeal to this audience. I have chosen this target audience because it is the same as the NME and my magazine has very similar images, font styles, colours and layouts towards it. Both magazines appeal to the young male target audience.
NME uses a wide variety of media to show their magazine brand. This includes:
Website
Video
Radio
Blogs
Magazine
Photos
Adverts
IPC Media is split up into 5 divisions each specialising in different areas. Each of these divisions have a director in charge of them. The five divisions are:
Is the mass market women’s division
Is IPC’s men’s division
Is the upmarket women’s division
Is advertising division
Is the marketing and distribution division
