The sacraments are outward and visible signs of inward and spiritual grace, given by Christ as a means by which we receive that grace.

"Recall then that you have received the spiritual seal, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of right judgment and courage, the spirit of knowledge and reverence, the spirit of holy fear in God's presence. Guard what you have received. God the Father has marked you with his sign; Christ the Lord has confirmed you and has placed his pledge, the Spirit, in your hearts." (St. Ambrose)

And all that believed were together, and had all things common; And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favor with all the people. It thus reminds us of our present sinful nature

קרבן

7133. qorban (kor-bawn')

Or qurban {koor-bawn'}; from qarab;

something brought near the altar,

i.e. A sacrificial present –

oblation, that is offered, offering.

A Korban was usually an animal sacrifice, such as a sheep or a bull that underwent shechita (Jewish ritual slaughter),

and was often cooked and eaten by the offerer,

with parts given to the Kohanim

and parts burned on the Temple mizbe'ah (altar).

Korbanot could also consist of doves, grain, wine, or incense.

Priestly(P) Tradition If, when

The concept behind sacrifice

Since the band of death cannot be shaken, life must be substitued with life as precious to you as yourself.

Animals are sacred in all nomadic and agricultural communities and are never slaughtered. They are slaughtered only as offerings to the gods and ancestors in healing, initiation, and atonement ceremonies.

They are merely consecrated offerings, made sacred for communal meals by the intiate, to share with their gods, ancestors, and the poor.

These communities eat meat only on these occasions.

Sacrifices ended with the

Destruction of the Second Temple Or

Was it the third?

AD 70

Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of Israel: Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat flesh.

For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings and sacrifices.

But this is what I commanded them saying, “Obey My voice and I will be your God and you will walk in all the way which I command you, that it may be well with you.” .. (Jer. 7:21–25)

Yahwist (J) Tradition

"O Israel, return unto the Lord your God; for you have fallen by your iniquity.

Take with you words, and return unto the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and accept us graciously: so will we render as bullocks the offerings of our lips" (Hosea 14:1-2).

Prophets

"Rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and full of compassion, slow to anger and plenteous in mercy, and repenteth him of the evil" (Joel 2:13).

What are your multiplied sacrifices to me? . . . I take no pleasure in the blood of bulls, lambs or goats. . . . I hate your new moon and your appointed feasts. . . . Cease to do evil. (Isa. 1:11, 14, 16–17)

With what shall I approach the Lord, Do homage to God on high? Shall I approach Him with burnt offerings, With calves a year old? Would the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams, With myriads of streams of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, The fruit of my body for my sins? God has tole you, Oh Man what is goodand what does the Lord require of you? Only to do justice And to love goodness, And to walk humbly with your God (Micah 6:6-8).

Psalms 51:16-21; Hosea 6:6, 14:3 and Jeremiah 29:4-14.

Once for All

" . . . by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy." (Hebrews 10:14)

Reconciliation

“This is the New Covenant in My Blood”“This is the New Covenant in My Blood”

Jesus instituted the Holy Communion during the Pesach Celebration of the Old Covenant

A covenant may have conditions and prerequisites that qualify the undertaking, including the actions of second or third parties, but there is no inherent agreement by such other parties to fulfill those requirements. Consequentially, the only party that can break a covenant is the covenantor.

A covenant, in its most general sense, is a solemn promise to do or not do something specified.

A covenant, in contrast to a contract, is a one-way agreement whereby the covenantor is the only party bound by the promise.

Jesus reinterpreted the Pesah

You will say to your son, We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand. The LORD gave signs and wonders, great and harmful, against Egypt, against Pharaoh, and against all his household, before our eyes: And he brought us out of there to bring us in, to give us the land that he promised our fathers. -Deuteronomy 6:20-23

Afikomen represents the sinless, broken, bruised,

The traditional Matzah Tosh (pocket)

It has three pockets each with one Matzah

The Three matzahs seperated by a layer of towel

The Three Matzah Three pieces of “striped and pierced”

matzah (unleavened bread) are placed in a separate pocket of a matzah tash (linen

bag). Messianic believers teach that these three pieces represent

Unity of Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Yachatz Break the middle matzah and hide half for Afikoman.Maggid Telling the Story of the Exodus

Raise the tray with the matzot and say:

This is the bread of affliction that our fathers ate in the land of Egypt. Whoever is hungry, let him come and eat; whoever is in need, let him come and conduct the Seder of Passover. This year [we are] here; next year in the land of Israel. This year [we are] slaves; next year [we will be] free people….

The tray with the matzot is moved aside, and the second cup is poured.(Do not drink it yet).

Why is it that on all other nights during the year we eat either bread or matzoh, but on this night we eat

only matzoh?

Why is it that on all other nights we eat all kinds of herbs, but on this night we eat only bitter herbs?

Why is it that on all other nights we do not dip our herbs even once, but on this night we dip them

twice?

Why is it that on all other nights we eat either sitting or reclining, but on this night we eat in a

reclining position?

Maggid Tell the Pesach story.

"We were slaves to Pharaoh in Egypt, and the L-rd, our G-d, took us out from there with a strong hand and with an outstretched arm. If the Holy One, blessed be He, had not taken our fathers out of Egypt, then we, our children and our children's children would have remained enslaved to Pharaoh in Egypt.

Even if all of us were wise, all of us understanding, all of us knowing the Torah, we would still be obligated to discuss the exodus from Egypt.
