    Top 10 Colleges and

    Universities in America

    Congratulations to those who

graduated from high school this year. On

to the next. You definitely started from

bottom and now you HERE! Im sure

many of you are patiently for the faithful

acceptance letters. And for those of us

who are going into our final year of

    University AMEN! Next is graduate

    school if thats for you.

    College is outrageously expensive.

Four years at an elite, private school like

    the University of Chicago (#4)

or Stanford (#3) costs more than a quarter

of a million dollars. A degree from a more

affordable state school, like the College of

William & Mary (#40) or the University of

    California, Berkeley (#50), still costs

    around $100,000, even for in-state

students, who pay less in tuition.

Is it worth it? For many students, the

answer is probably not unless they are

accomplished enough to be accepted by

one of the schools ranked near the top of

our annual list of Americas 650 Top

    Colleges.

    The rankings, which are compiled

exclusively for Forbes by the Washington,D.C.-based Center for College

    Affordability and Productivity, focus on

the things that matter the most to

students: quality of teaching, great career

prospects, high graduation rates and low-

levels of debt. They do not attempt to

assess a schools reputation, nor are they a

measure of academic selectivity and we

pointedly ignore any metrics that would

encourage schools to engage in wasteful

    spending.

    Princeton University (#1) tops the

list again, for the first time since 2008

Williams College (#2) slips into second

place, after two consecutive years as top

dog. Ivy League schools dominate the top

ten, claiming three spots in addition to

Princeton: Yale (#5), Harvard (#6) and

Columbia (#8); Cornell(#51) was the only

Ivy not to crack the elite top 50.

Rounding out the top ten are the

University of Chicago (#4), a place where

    undergraduates say fun comes to

die, West Point (#7), whose cadets pay no

tuition, although they must serve on active

duty in the U.S. Army post-

graduation, Pomona College (#9), one of

the seven Claremont Colleges in Southern

    California and Swarthmore (#10)

    Excluding service academies, there are

five public schools in the top 50, with

  • 7/30/2019 Pixelated Allure ~ May 2013 - Volume 1

    4/20

the University of Virginia (#36) being the

    highest ranked.

The rankings are based on five

    general categories: post graduate success

(32.5%), which evaluates alumni pay and

    prominence, student satisfaction (27.5%),

    which includes professor evaluations and

    freshman to sophomore year retention

    rates, debt (17.5%), which penalizes

schools for high student debt loads and

    default rates, four-year graduation rate

    (11.25%) and competitive awards

    (11.25%), which rewards schools whose

    students win prestigious scholarships and

fellowships like the Rhodes, the Marshall

and the Fulbright or go on to earn a Ph.D.

    Sundai:

If youre like me, youre probably over the heavy part scene. These days I frequent a

lot of lounges, and thus, need a lot of

cocktail dresses. Last summer it was allabout body con and mod dresses, this year

its the poof and baby dolls. Heres my

simple outfit of choice. Im not a big girlie

girl so I keep it as simple as possible and

feel comfortable doing it. This dress is $

I have a serious shoe fetish, and I just could not pass these

boots up, they were jaw dropping simple but gorgeous.

Irreplaceable Boot Heelsare a DesirableBeauty production

that cost only 600 credits. They are a summer must have. Wedge

heels, with studs at the back, these boots can go from classy to

    hardcore in two seconds.

    Finally, my hair. Those

who know me, know that I am a

    naturalist and well

    #IRockLocks and I am

    #TeamDreadlocks. I found this

    creator who does the best

    dreadlocks and braided styles

for any occasion, be it a night on the town, going to school

or just lazing around at home. For a night on the town, I love

a nice up do, especially if I have pretty earrings to show off

    Hair compliments Dreads called D||Dreads|Hannah|

Well this was my take on an outfit of choice. If you have an O.O.C that youd like to

have featured in the next edition of Pixelated Allure, e-mail your pictures, and summary of

the outfit toIndividualPress@gmail.com. Please note that it is the purpose of P.A. to give

credit where credit is due and to show the creativity and talent of those who take the time

out to develop these styles for us. So it would be nice if you mention the creator(s) you arerocking.

Styles to Look Out for this Summer

With summer pretty much here, and all the events right around the corner, it's time to prep

the wardrobe! See the top fashion trends hot of the season's catwalk. And men, we did not

    forget you either.

    First, the beautiful ladies

    Trend: Monochrome

Monochrome it's this season's itword. Giving two fingers up to whoever said black

and white was boring, this minimalist trend was all over the runways including Gucci, Marc

    Jacobs and Roland Mouret.

    Trend: GM Flowers

Take a walk down the trippy garden path

From plastic roses to pop art daisies and

gemstone gerberas, flowers have never been so

    chemically enhanced.

    8/20

    Trend: Aqua Fresh

Feeling blue? Well it is this season's most eye-catching trend. There's many shades

but only one colour to sport this summer. From cobalt at Etro to cornflower at Chalayan

and aquamarine at Zac Posen, take a deep

    breath and dive in.

    Trend: Clever Prints

Its all about letting your clothes do the

talking - foreign postage stamps at Mary

Katrantzou, Sicilian folklore at Dolce &

    Gabbana and colourful exaggerated leopard

print at Kenzo. Go bold, go bright, and go

    forth.

Trend: Swinging FringingFrom glitzy metallic fringing at Versace

to leather at Rodarte, silk at Nina Ricci and

raffia at Donna Karan - it's evident for

summer that it's all about the shimmy

    detailing.

    Trend: Gruffles Flamenco Forte

Get ready to be seduced by the gruffle.

With hips all a wiggle it sauntered down the

summer runways. All sultry curves at

Balenciaga, Gucci and Marni. Guaranteed to

    cause yells of Ol!

    Trend: Geometry class

Sit up and pay attention please. It's time

to go back to geometry class. Thankfully

fashion is much more exciting with jumbo checks at Marc Jacobs and super even stripes at

Moschino. So grab your ruler and measure up

    this summer.

Trend: Geisha DelishaPrada, Hermes, Etro and Emporio

Armani all looked to Asia for inspiration this

summer. To create your own origami shaped

masterpiece take one quilted kimono jacket,

fasten with an obi belt then shuffle onwards

and upwards in your leather judo socks.

Trend: Sixties Super GraphicTake a trip back to the sixties with bold

primary colors and pop-art prints spliced

    together. Art degree optional.

    Ready guys youre up

The Spring/Summer 2013 season is all about statement prints and bold colors, shiny

fabrics, leather and relaxed silhouettes. This season its also all aboutlayering. There are no

simple ensembles. On the opposite, the tops are layered with vests and trench coats and

long-sleeved shirts are worn under T-shirts.

    Metallics

From shiny suit fabrics to metallic finishes this summer

is all about the shine. Even shirts and shorts get metallic

makeover. Pairing bold metallics with solids is a good idea as

well as choosing only one item with metallic finish.

    Stripes

Stripes were all over the runways in both mens wearand womens wear. They come in

various colors and sizes as well as

in various clothing items from trousers to shirts and sweaters

    Camouflage

Camouflage spotted at Dries Van Noten, Valentino and

    many other shows is another

trendy print of the season. It canbe worn in outerwear, trousers or

    shirts.

    Florals

    Florals took over menswear

    appearing on everything from ties

    to coats. Florals can be

intimidating but it doesnt meanyou cannot try them. Opt for a tie in floral print and see how it

    goes from there.

    Light Knitwear

Knitwear doesnt always come to mind when we think ofsummer, but designers offer

light sweaters for the season. They are worn over shirts or on

their own. These are perfect for transitions between seasons

and can be worn casually or formally with a suit.

    Quilting

Quilting is also one of the trends spotted at Dries Van

Noten, Nicole Farhi and Tim Coppens. It appears not only in

jackets and vests but also in

shorts and adds another detail to

    the outfit.

    Denim Blazer

Denim jackets and blazers were seen at Giorgio Armaniand Duckie Brown shows. They are casual and a bit

    controversial especially when

paired with jeans. To steer clear

of fashion faux pas avoid pairing

    denim with denim.

    White Suit

White suit have been all over the runways and we cannotignore them. Trouser suits, short suits, suits with matching

white trench coats are all the

rage for summer and its no

wonder since the white is such a summer-y color.

    Best Vacation Spots for 2013

Many people look forward to their summer vacation. They go on a cruise, or go to a

Caribbean island get away. Since I lived in the Caribbean all my life, I can tell you nothing

beats the sea breeze, the sun on your skin and the white or pink sand in between your toes

Even so, there are a lot of other pleases that have their own uniqueness that makes them awonderful place to go on vacation for the summer.

    Amelia Island

Off the coast of Florida's northeast shore sits pristine Amelia Island. With 13 miles of

beaches, this little barrier island has a rich history and a subdued, outdoorsy vibe. Amelia

is far removed from the world of Orlando's

    bustling theme parks and crowded

attractions. Families can take in a sailing orkayaking lesson, walk around historic

Fernandina Beach or go in search of

    manatees, sea turtles and whales.

    Montreal

If a family voyage to France isn't in

the cards for 2013, consider an attractive

and more affordable alternative: Montreal. With its cobblestone streets, marvelousboutiques and creperies, it's the ideal destination for those looking for a distinct change of

pace. At Space for Life, kids will

    love Montreal Botanical Gardens, the

Insectarium, and the Biodome, a zoo that

    brings together five different ecosystems

    under the same roof.

    The Bahamas

Convenient, relatively affordable as far as Caribbean islands go, and teeming with

activities for kids, the Bahamas is not new

to must-visit lists. Here you'll find a mecca

of family fun: Atlantis Paradise Island, the

    sprawling mega-resort with killer

waterslides, 11 pools, the largest open-air

marine habitat in the world and more

wow-factor than a kid (or grownup) could

ask for. A Bahamas Cruise is also a great

    option for families.

    Park City

Widely known as a hotspot for skiers and outdoor enthusiasts, and home to the

Sundance Film Festival, Park City, Utah has

always been a popular destination for

families. In summer months, families can

trade in their skis for hiking boots and

bikes, and explore miles of biking and

    hiking trails.

    Galveston Island

Often-overlooked, GalvestonIsland is becoming more popular with

families, for good reason. While the island's idyllic, tranquil beaches are a major draw

Galveston Island offers much more. You can also combine a visit to Galveston with a cruise

to Mexico or the Caribbean; Carnival, Royal

Caribbean, Disney and Princess all cruise

    out of Galveston.

    14/20

    San Diego

San Diego has it all. Wander through Balboa Park, visit the Natural History Museum,

Air & Space Museum and SeaWorld. Don't forget to venture just outside city limits

to LEGOLAND. Another of the most

popular attractions for families is the San

Diego Zoo, home to the beloved giant

pandas. Relatively new at the San Diego

Zoo Safari Park is the Jungle Ropes Safari

where families can swing through the trees

and attempt to cross rope bridges and

    moving platforms.

    Nantucket

This small island 27 miles off the coast of Cape Cod has long been a darling of well-

traveled families, providing just the right

    mix of rustic charm and

luxury. Nantucket is an ideal spot for kids:

A place where two wheels are the

preferred means of transport, and low-key

concerts are on the summer agenda at

    Children's Beach, near Harbor Town.

    Alaska (by Cruise Ship)

If you're looking for a major departure

from your average sea and sand vacation, consider Alaska. A cruise allows you to experience

    its spectacularly harsh and stunning

landscape in a family-friendly way, and

with more than two dozen cruise ships

sailing these frigid waters all summer,

there are options aplenty. When there, youcan take a White Pass train ride, pan for

gold in Skagway or go dogsledding in

    Juneau.

    Turks and Caicos

Grace Bay, one of the Caribbean's most beautiful beaches, is worth the trip to Turks

and Caicos alone. Calm waters and soft sand make it ideal for families, and there are enough

amenities and dining options to keep kids entertained all day. Beaches Turks and Caicos has

long been one of our favorite family

resorts. Grace Bay Beach has plenty of

great options for families to relax and have

fun. New York make it highly assessable.

    Jersey Shore

We've all seen footage of the devastation

Hurricane Sandy caused when it hit

the Northern and Southern Jersey Shores

in late October 2012. Some of the region's

most beloved attractions, including the iconic boardwalk of Seaside Heights, suffered major

damage. But beach towns up and down the coast have already begun to rebuild in

anticipation of summer 2013, and a visit

to the shore this summer will provide a

    whole new experience for families.

In the Pixel Light: Cover Girl ~ Maci

One of the hottest shows out right now in the Pixel-verse

is Cover Girl. Every week, these girls take us into their lives to

give us a glimpse of what they do. In this issue, well take a look

    atCover Girland recording artistMaci (Evacueez).

Sundai: When you hear about Cover Girl,

what's the first thing that comes to

    mind for you?

    Maci:Different styles, uniqueness Child,

were everything all in one group... You

    feel me?

Sundai: What made you want to be in CGin the first place?

Maci: I joined cover girls because I wanted

to be where a group of others accepted

me for who I am. Cause Im from the

    south. Yes Bama (Alabama) (eastside

8th ward). So yeah... Thats why and to

    meet new people.

Sundai: Makes sense.Maci: Cause were gonna group and be

    bigger than we are!

Sundai: I know most people would say all

CG does is show the drama. What would

you say to the critics who don't

understand that there is family and

    unity between you guys?

Maci: CG is more than drama. We all goes

through drama, pain, sadness and so

on. Well it shows that we are regular

people to you know. Cause everybody

has drama. Child if anyone says they

never had drama, I say they damn lie!

    Like the

    way it is, to

    me the

    critics can

    kiss where

    the sun

    don't

shine.Sundai: Agreed. I'm sure many viewers

want to know who exactly Maci is. How

    would you describe yourself?

    Maci: I describe myself ghettoness

country, Bama. I speak my mind you

know. Yes I have a smart mouth at times

but hey, its Maci babe. Im not gonna

change for no one or nothing.

Sundai: So to those out there who would

disagree with how you handle situations

and yourself, what would you say to them

    out there?

Maci:Ill tell them do not blog bout me, do

not be on radio station talking about me.

Come to me and Ill be happy to address

that issue. If you have a problem with me,

Im a responsible person. Come to Maci

and let me address the issue directly. I like

    that.

Sundai: Finally, as a Cover Girl, there are

many young girls out there who want to

  • 7/30/2019 Pixelated Allure ~ May 2013 - Volume 1

    17/20

watch and imitate what they see. What

    words of

    advice can you

    tell them about

    just being

    themselves?

    Because fromjust talking to

    you now, I can

    definitely see

    that you follow

    your own path

    no matter what.

Maci: Ill say this, be (ORIGINALS). So

many girls wanna be Beyonce and sh*t

Child please don't just be yourself

Make yourself be (ORIGINAL). We need

no more Beyonce or no fake ass Nicki

Minaj eww. Do you! Thats all you

    gotta do babe.

We keep each other in check

    ~Jessi, Ryn, & Ari~

I had the pleasure recently ofsitting down and talking to the three

beautiful and talented young ladies that

make up WISH. Jessi (Modelesque), Ryn

    (DiamondRyn), and Ari (EpicNavy),

    each describe themselves and one-third

WISH, and anyone who takes the time

out to sit down and talk to these ladies

can see exactly there.Ryn was the first person I met, and I

must say saw was a peach. Ari was next,

and I could see that she kept things in

order for the group. Finally there was Jessi

who, both Ryn and Ari, describe as the

    mother hen.

The first question I asked these girls

was how exactly WISH was born. Ryn gaveme a heartfelt answer. WISH was the

simply the brain child of three friends who

shared interests in similar girl groups and

decided that they could do the same thing

here in the pixel-verse of IMVU.

These girls do not stick to one genre

of music. Each of their albums touch on a

different genre which included, pop, hip

hop and with their latest album Prism to be

released June 1st dance. Just sitting in the

same room with these ladies was

refreshing. You can feel the love they had

for each other and you could sense their

    chemistry.

One question that comes to mind

when one thinks about an all-girl group is

whether or not they could keep their inner

diva in check. Ari jokily said that she was

the Diva of the group, but said soon after

that they would not be WISHis everyone

didnt pull their fair share of the work and

be equals. Communication was a key factor

for these group. By keeping all lines of

communication open, they make sure that

they can keep each other in check, and also

work through any problems they had

When one member thinks that she is the IT

factor, there are two other girls to keep her

    in check.

    With albums comes fame, fortune

and success. I wanted to know how exactly

these girls stay humble and grounded. It

was the consensus of the girls that because

they do it together, they are able to stay

  • 7/30/2019 Pixelated Allure ~ May 2013 - Volume 1

    19/20

grounded especially since they are doing

    what they love.

It was a pleasure chatting with these

girls, especially when I asked them to give

some words of advice to the young girls of

there who felt that they had to sell

themselves to give where WISHis it. These

ladies believe that nothing worth working

for comes easy, and the easy route is not

    always the right route.

After talking WISH I can safely say

that not only are they talented, beautiful,

humble and a joy to be around, they are

serious about their craft, and put the love

and friendship they have for each other

    above all else.
