Most Loving God, Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish and Our Lady Help of Christians Parish are composed of people
like me. I help make my parish what it is. It will be friendly, if I am. Its pews will be filled, if I help fill them. It
will do great work, if I work. It will make generous gifts to many causes, if I am a generous giver. It will bring
other people to love and serve You, if I invite and bring them. It will be a parish of loyalty and love, of
fearlessness and faith, and a parish with a noble spirit, if I, who know that I belong, am filled with these same
gifts. Therefore, with Your help, Gracious God, I shall dedicate myself to the task of being all of the things that
I want my parish to be. Amen.

Deacon’s Place Whether you're eight years old or in your
eighties, at some point in your life, you've
probably struggled with the question, "Why do
we have to go to Mass?" There are a wide
variety of reasons people have and here are
just a few:
You just may not feel like going at times. You
may not like the music or the homilies in your
parish. You may think Mass is boring. You may
feel as if the parish is not welcoming. You may
try to convince yourself that you can pray just
as well outdoors or in the comfort of your own
home.
Over the next 9 weeks we will explore "Ten
Good Reasons to go to Mass". Here is the first
one:
God asks us to make one day holy. God asks us
to set aside one day to refocus physically,
mentally, and spiritually. We live in a secular
world. Going to Mass helps us to see everything
from a different perspective. We begin to see in
the depths of our being that God is in charge.
We can let go of our own agenda because we
know that God will inspire us, guide us, and
strengthen us for the week ahead.
Until next week have a wonderful week and
God Bless,
Deacon George +

Vacation Bible School
All children from Our Lady’s and Sacred Heart
who were in preschool through 6th grade this
past Religious Ed year are invited to attend
Vacation Bible School. It is scheduled for
Monday through Friday, July 23-27, 2018,
from 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., and will be held
in Our Lady’s Parish Hall. If you plan to have
your child attend, please contact Nora
Valovage before June 30th to register.
Religious Ed Catechists Needed
We have not registered our students for
Religious Ed for the 2018-2019 school year,
part of the reason for that is our lack of
catechists. We are in need of teachers for
kindergarten, third grade and eighth
grade. We combined classes last year and
may need to do so again this year if we do
not get enough volunteers. Another option is
to have parents home school and have
regular meetings with the CRE to make sure
the students are getting the information
needed for that particular grade. Our
catechists must be Catholics in good standing
with the church and are expected to fulfill
their Sunday liturgical obligations and to
otherwise participate in the life of their
Catholic faith community. Please prayerfully
consider if this is something that God is
asking you to do. If you are interested in
volunteering, contact Nora at the parish office
(717-453-7895) or at home (717-453-8207).
MARRIAGE ANNULMENTS
The Tribunal of the Diocese of Harrisburg will

the RCIA process and any others who may
have a vested interest because of family and
friends.
June 14 - St. Patrick Parish, Carlisle, 7 pm.
No prior registration is required. For further
information, please call 717-657-4804,
extension 304, or
email: tribunal@hbgdiocese.org or

CAMP VOL_NTEERS...all that is missing is
U! The Diocesan Summer Camp for Adults
with Intellectual & Developmental Disabilities
is seeking volunteers willing to assist at its
residential camp, August 12-17, 2018. The
camp takes place at Camp Kirchenwald in
Lebanon County and serves the needs of
approximately 40 adults. The camp has been
held annually for the past 32 years, and is
primarily dependent on volunteer support.
Last year, volunteers from 21 parishes
participated alongside volunteers from other
faith communities to make this event a
success. Anyone 16+ is welcome to
volunteer for full-time or part-time duties;
there is a particular need for male volunteers,
18 or older, who are able to spend the night,
and for volunteers skilled at running an arts &
crafts program. All volunteers are required to
complete the Diocesan Clearance process and
attend a brief training session prior to helping
at camp. A deadline of June 30, 2018 for
expressing volunteer interest is
requested in order to facilitate planning
efforts.
Sponsor a Camper - Would you like to
sponsor a campership for a person with a
disability who might not otherwise be able to
afford camp? The Diocese of Harrisburg is
seeking donations to defray the cost for
campers to ensure that each individual who
would like to attend camp is able to do so,
regardless of finances. A full week of camp
costs $575, but donations in any amount will
be welcomed. They can be sent to the Office
of Ministry with People with Disabilities, 4800
Union Deposit Road, Harrisburg, PA 17111.
Checks should be made payable to the
Diocese of Harrisburg. For more
information on volunteering or
sponsoring a camper, please contact
Larry Kiley at 717-657-4804, Ext. 322, or
email lkiley@hbgdiocese.org.
Our Lady and Sacred Heart Parishioners
In keeping with Father Mike’s plan to make our Parishes grow stronger, he suggested at the last
Parish Council Meeting that he would like to form sub-committees to help with various aspects of
Parish activities.
Please pray about this and consider volunteering to serve on one or more of the following sub-
committees:
Evangelization:
Religious Education and RCIA Teachers. There is no greater way to hand on our faith than to
share your own faith with our youth, and to adults who desire to become Catholic. Training is
available through the Diocese of Harrisburg for each of these positions.
Liturgical Ministries:
Lectors- (which we desperately need)
Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion- (also badly needed)
Choir
Church Cleaners- Currently someone comes in on a Friday and vacuums and cleans the floors,
and the windows on the doors and various other cleaning duties. We would like to have a
committee that can come in once a month and do a more thorough cleaning. Remember that
many hands lighten the load, so the more people we have the less time it will take to accomplish
this.
Sacristans- to help set up before Mass and clean up after.
Grounds and Maintenance Committee:
A few people who can walk around the property on a regular basis to see if there is anything
that looks like it needs to be repaired/replaced or if there are other building issues that need to
be addressed. This committee would then meet to discuss what needs to be done and make
suggestions on how to cover the cost. These would then be presented to the Finance Council.
Fundraising Committee:
This committee would come up with some additional fundraising ideas. Up until now, the
fundraising that has been done in Sacred Heart Parish is by the Ladies Council of Catholic
Women. These wonderful and generous ladies have put in many hours of hard work to keep the
church doors open, but they are getting tired. We need to have an additional group that will
step in and lighten the load for the ladies and still maintain the level of fund- raising that has
been done in the past. Maybe someone has some new ideas.
Please look into your hearts and pray about this. We are trying very hard to make our Parishes
grow in the right direction. We have a Pastor who is very committed to helping us do just that.
If you are interested in helping, please fill in the form below and return it in the collection
basket.
