EARLY START TO 2008 SEASON!BUSY OFFSEASON BRINGS CHANGES!

ATAG Com missioner Don Nic hols announced today that the 2008 ATAG

season would start next Tuesda y, Marc h 11, 2008, taking advantage of aleg islatively induc ed ea rly Spring ma de p ossible b y an e a rlier sta rt foDaylight Savings Time tha nks to last yea r’s ATAG lob byists.

The long off sea son proved to be very busy w ith seve ra l of the wintemeetings extending late into the night where many controversial issuewere deba ted a mongst ATAG comm ittee memb ers.

First, no doubt you have noticed the new name for the ATAG newsletter.During the off season, the Editor of the Nickelod eon received a “Cease

and Desist” letter from the Nickelod eon Cab le Television Network.Apparently, the widespread popularity of ATAG has caused our globalreadership to continually besiege the Nickelodeon Network to televiseATAG matc hes, irrita ting the Nick eno ugh to threa ten filing a lawsuitbased on copyright and trademark infringement. A letter from the Nick’New York law firm, Killem and Berium, LLP, demanded that we“immediately cease and desist from engaging in such misleading andillega l prac tices or else fac e pe rma nent injunc tive relief and sta tutoryand monetary damages including an award of all attorney fees.”Refusing to be intimidated, the ATAG Suprem e Counc il authorized theCommissioner to engage the services of the litigation  firm of Cheatham

and  Krushem, LLP, to mount a vigorous defense of the impending lawsuitto the fullest extent of ATAG resources. However, the effort was quicklyab ando ned w hen it wa s determined that the b alance in the ATAG Leg al

Defense Fund was $1.79, so the newsletter now has a new moniker and ,quite frankly, one tha t is mo re rep resent a tive of ATAG activities.

Sec ond , there wa s g rea t de ba te a bout revising the Draw Partner methodwhen o ne t ea m is short a p layer. This c ont roversial issue w as deb ated welinto the night until the ATAG Rules Committee, chaired by Danny Morris  c ame up w ith a revision tha t, in his wo rds, “ bot h preserves the histo ry andtradition of the c urrent ATAG draw system w hile a dd ing the ac curac y andfairness of the Bowl Championship Series computer ranking system andthe simp lic ity of the PGA Fed -Ex Cup Points sta nding c a lculation.” The newsystem allows the team that is short a player to “use a multiplier from theeighth p lace team from the p rior yea r’s Co llege Foo tb all BCS averagecomputer ranking cubed times the number of Fed-Ex points from the
