Synopsis:

Bridge maintenance involves performing long term treatments and repairs in a short period of time with minimal equipment under live traffic conditions. Traffic volumes and user delays discourage overnight or long term lane closures. Therefore, innovative and unique repair materials are necessary to get the lane back into service as quickly as possible. Fortunately, there is no shortage of product vendors soliciting the bridge maintenance community to try their new or improved products. Unfortunately, their claims often exceed actual performance. This presentation highlights some of the promising products tried by NYSDOT bridge maintenance forces. New materials suited to common bridge maintenance needs, such as expansion joint and deck repairs, will be presented. The advantages and limitations of each product will be discussed. A few non-material products, such as hardware and equipment, that have proven useful in bridge maintenance will also be presented.
