CLOUD ADOPTION: KEY FINDINGS In January 2015, RightScale surveyed 930 technical professionals across a broad cross-section of organizations about their adoption of cloud computing:
◦ Cloud is a given and hybrid cloud is the preferred strategy (82 percent of enterprises have a hybrid cloud strategy, up from 74 percent in 2014.)
◦ Public cloud leads in breadth of enterprise adoption, while private cloud leads in workloads ◦ Significant headroom for more enterprise workloads to move to the cloud

INTEROPERABILITY: MOTIVATIONS
The growth of cloud-based service APIs and the need to build complex systems involving highly heterogeneous ICT resources (e.g. mobile devices, IoT systems, and immersive Cyber
Physical Systems) challenges the most basic principle of distributed systems.

INTEROPERABILITY / PORTABILITY
INTEROPERABILITY Capability of public, private clouds to cooperate and interoperate on application and service interfaces.
APPLICATION
PLATFORM
MANAGEMENT
Dynamic discovery and composition: the ability to discover instances, application components.
Service discovery between platforms
Cooperation between cloud services IaaS, PaaS and SaaS
PORTABILITY Portability is about the ability to move an entity from one system to another usable on the target system.
DATA

TOWARD INTEROPERABILITY • STANDARDIZATION EFFORT:
◦ OVF, CDMI, OCCI (deployment of VM, functional interface, cloud management) ◦ TOSCA (Topology and Orchestration specification) ◦ CAMP OASIS-> interoperable protocol
• Emerging technologies as containerization for allowing subdivision and independent deployment of applications
• Services offer by inter-cloud provider (mapping interfaces)
• OPEN SOURCE PROJECTS: OPEN GOVERNANCE ◦ Openstack ◦ Industry support: Cloud Foundry, Heroku, Openshift and Docker

H2020 RESEARCH AND INNOVATION PROGRAMME H2020 CALL ICT-06-2016: Cloud Computing: (Submission: April 12 2016)
Development of new paradigms (heterogeneous, federated, distributed clouds) interactions between the computing and networking infrastructures
• RIA: Adoption of competitive, innovative, secure and reliable cloud computing services by SMEs and public sector organisations across Europe.
• IA: Experimentation: cloud-based services and their deployment configurations in largescale decentralized and federated environments, in particular exploring and contributing towards interoperability and standardisation.
• IA: Cloud Computing for SMEs and Public Sector Innovation: innovation through an increased provision and adoption of cloud computing services by two strategic target communities: SMEs and public sector organisations
