Memorial Presentation for Charlie Brooks Jr

September 1, 1942 –December 1, 1982

Ladies and Gentleman A

2916 Ennis Ave; FTW, TX; The House where Charlie Jr grew up

According to the Family & this 1940 Census, the house has been in the Family at least 73 years! Also, Thanks to Aunt Mary Dewitt for keeping it

in the Family!

His Farther, Charlie Sr or Papa Charlie, worked at Swift Meat Packing Company (closed 1971), so the Family

was doing Great Financially!

Papa Charlie was a pillar in the community!!!

A story I’ve heard was that he used to Help Anyone in the Community that Needed Help!! He was Loved by the entire Riverside Community!! Needless to say, Charlie Jr, was a little spoiled!

Papa Charlie passed at 55, when Charlie Jr was 13 years old. He was devastated and took it Extremely Hard and Rebelled!!!!! He began spinning out-of-contol and eventually began using Drugs in his late teens (around 17-18).

Long Story Short, he would be in and out of prison the rest of his life, until his Execution on December 7, 1982, at the age of 40.

Although he took his father’s death Hard, he was still a Good Person and was Well Liked in the Riverside Community!

Another story I’ve heard was that he was the only person in Riverside with A Pony and he used to let everybody ride it. He was very well liked by everyone!!

Charlie Brooks Jr is buried here at Cedar Hill Memorial Park in Kennedale, TX

The Supreme Court of the United States rejected by 6-3 a petition to grant a stay of execution [2][3]. The State Board of Pardons and Paroles recommended by 2-1 that the execution should proceed [2]

However…

3 Judges Dissented, including Mr. Thurgood Marshall. Here’s what Mr. Marshall wrote:

Here was his last meal:

And his last words…

Here are some Headlines & Pictures from Texas Monthly on the Execution. – February, 1983

The Death Chamber at Huntsville “The Walls” Prison Unit.

According to this article, Charlie Jr confessed, but I don’t believe that. I believe he may have been under duress and coerced…

Keith Brooks leaving “The Walls Unit”& checking his watch. It’s 12:10am, after the execution!

Joyce Brooks (ex-wife) & Vanessa Sapp (new wife), leaving Huntsville (The Walls Unit) after execution!

This was the guy killed, David Gregory.

We, the Family, know in our Hearts, that Charlie Jr DIDN’T kill Mr. David Gregory, that Woody Loudres did…

This is Texas Montly’s Writer’s Opinion:

The Advocates for the Death Penalty outside of Huntsville “The Walls” Unit, during the Execution…

When Charlie Jr became a Muslim, he changed his name to: Shareef Ahmad Abdul-Rahim. Here is one of the ministers allowed to see the Execution: Imam Larry Amin Sharrieff.

The first funeral was for his Muslim Faith. It was at Hassan Masjid of All-Islam on 1201 E Allen, FTW, TX

Here we are at the Wake (for the second funeral), at Wiliams Funeral Home on Ramey.

Here are some of the Headlines & Pictures from Jet: December 27, 1982 magazine. It has Jane Kennedy on the cover…
