Tourism monthwell the year is fast disappearing again and the TGs board has already turned its
mind to Tourism month in october. This annual month long event is one of the
largest projects TGs works on tirelessly for the benefit of all members.
This year marks the fifth year of Tourism month and it is shaping up to be a fabulous
way to celebrate all that is great in the shepparton region - both for its visitors and
those who live, work and play here. we will roll out the very popular calendar of
events to promote and celebrate your events, product launches, open days and
visitor experience. This is a free way to promote your business in the 25 000 event
calendars delivered directly to households throughout the region. a fabulous
member benefit offered by your board so please make sure you take up the offer
and get involved. more information is available on the Tourism month page.
watch This spaceand i can reveal that there will be a huge opportunity during Tourism month for
interested tourism operators, local producers and venues to promote themselves
to a huge melbourne audience. an exciting three day event from october 4 to 6
will be held at Caulfield racecourse to showcase the Goulburn valley to potential
visitors and buyers with Greater shepparton playing a very important, and large, role
in working with the organisers to make sure this event is a success. TGs was among
those invited to a meeting to help develop this event which will be run by sydney
based marketing agency, aC agency, who has a belief and passion for what we do
here in the Goulburn valley.
The Caulfield racecourse will provide a space for our food, wine, family friendly
attractions, key producers and industry to be put on show to thousands of people
keen to find out more about the Goulburn valley. aC agency will be taking
expressions of interest from local attractions, food and wine producers and venues,
including accommodation to be involved in the event. more details will be made
available soon so watch this space. TGs will work closely with operators who would
like to apply to be involved in the event so if you think this is something for you
please email info@tourismgreatershepparton.com.au and let us know. we will also
use facebook to keep you updated so please make sure you have liked our page.
member surveyThank you to those members who have responded to our member feedback survey
sent out via email at the end of last month. There are many more of you that haven’t
returned your thoughts and i encourage you to do so. we field many ideas, complaints
and view points on what we do all year, so now you have a chance to put them to the
board formally through this survey. Take the time to tell us what we are doing well, or
what we could do better so we can use your membership fees wisely and ultimately
represent you the best way we can. see the member news page for the link to the
survey - you could win a free 12 month TGs membership valued at $365.
huge event Comingshepparton has won the right to host the 2014 Bmx national Titles. The event was
first held here in 2010 and will return next april, along with about 4000 competitors,
support crew and spectators. all details about the event is on the General news
page so make sure you are up to speed with the details, especially if you are an
accommodation provider.
Below is a quote from Bmx championship organisers which is fantastic for our city.
“The track and the facilities in shepparton are first class and a favourite among riders.
Bmx australia believes in leaving a legacy to the sport, that was the case from 2010
and it’s great that we can return in 2014 to continue to build that with assistance of
the Greater shepparton City Council.”

membership year.

provide suggestions for desirable additional member benefits. from these surveys
the board would also like input on what it is doing well or what it could be doing
better and to generally determine what members want from their membership. This

weeknights hostingsit’s not too late to put your business name in the may monthly draw for your chance
to have a half hour weeknights show hosted from your business for just $165.
The board believes this is a valuable and inexpensive opportunity for operators
to obtain a presence on television and to raise the profile of tourism. The board
therefore voted to subsidise these hostings by 50 per cent therefore at the member
rate you only pay $165. each month the board will draw two businesses from a hat to
receive the 50 per cent off. alternatively if you have an event, launch or news about
your business that you would like to publicise via a hosting on a particular date you
can opt to purchase a hosting for $330inc to be guaranteed a spot.
Congratulations to Go Tafe and sPC ardmona factory sales, both were
drawn out to receive the TGs subsidised rate. The Go Tafe hosting
was aired on may 1, and the sPC ardmona factory sales hosting
will be on weeknights on wednesday, may 29. ensure you tune into
southern Cross Ten weeknights to hear the news from these TGs members and see
how a hosting can work for your business.
CliCK here to view a snippet of a weeknights hosting that was filmed at
Big 4 shepparton east holiday Park last year. as you will see this provides great
promotion for your business and the opportunity to be inteviewed about any events,
new products or facilities at your business.
if you would like to go in the monthly draw, find out more about the program or
book a hosting please email Kate smith at info@tourismgreatershepparton.com.au
mum Knows Best Chefs’ Challengelast week two TGs members, friars Cafe and The Teller Collective participated in
shepparton show me’s ‘mum Knows Best Chefs’ Challenge’ held in fryers street.
These brave local chefs were critiqued by mums, who after a very close contest for
their favourite dish, awarded the mums’ preferred choice to friars Cafe. dishes were
judged on presentation, taste and local ingredients utilised.
attendees not only enjoyed the Chef Challenge, they were also able to participate in
activities including free cupcake decorating for the kids, the ‘spice up BBQ’ cooking
presentation and the ‘how to match food and wine’ session. shepparton show me
advised that random surveys were completed during the event and the majority
surveyed indicated that the event was an incentive for people to come to town.

Joel ensured i was at ease, and there was the opportunity for second takes!
we were extermely impressed that we actually got our business promoted
throughout the entire 30 minute segment of weeknights, not just our 5 minute
interview coverage. i would encourage all other TGs members to go in the

and ability to hold large events,” Bmx australia President mr Barry Knight said.
“The track and the facilities in shepparton are first class and a favourite among riders.
