What is LRG
Les Roches Gruyère University of Applied Sciences is a new University that received official federal authorization on the 2nd of July 2008 from the Swiss government.
Second private UAS ever approved in Switzerland
First private UAS in the hotel management field
In January 2009, it launched a Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management.
What is LRG
http://www.bbt.admin.ch/themen/hochschulen/00215/00232/index.html?lang=fr
What are the criteria to be a UAS
1. To deliver a Bologna Style degree that meets Swiss entry requirements
2. To deliver post graduate degree: (Master of Advanced Studies)
3. To undertake Research
4. To undertake consultancy
Why the name of LRG?
One of our prime objective was to launch a new university that would receive
immediate recognition throughout the world and the hospitality industry. The name of
Les Roches is very well known and is among the top three hospitality schools in the
world, hence taking advantage of its prime position and recognised brand name.
We were not allowed to use the name “Glion” as it is the name of a town and we do
not meet the criteria necessary to use it.
NEASC and the Swiss Government did not allow us to use “Les Roches University of
Applied Sciences” because too close and similar to the current Les Roches
International School of Hotel Management.
Why the name of LRG?
To clearly differentiate this new university and as it will be registered in the Canton of
Fribourg and more specifically in the Gruyère region (which is different from the
cheese which is spelled with an “s” at the end of “Gruyères”), the word Gruyère was
added to the name. Also, the main campus will be in Bulle which is also part of the
Gruyère region.
Hence Les Roches-Gruyère University of Applied Sciences was chosen to ensure quick
recognition within the industry through the name of “Les Roches”, and to differentiate
it from the current Les Roches through its distinctive location in the Gruyère region.
Logo was changed recently to put more emphasis on the UAS aspect rather than LRG
