The childhood

of Jesus

Christ

Name as many people as possible from the previous weeks’ lessons who witnessed that Jesus Christ was the Son of God?

Gabriel Luke 1:30–32

Elisabeth Luke 1:41–43

John the Baptist John 1:29–34

Angels and shepherds Luke 2:8–17

Now when Jesus was

born in Bethlehem in

Judaea in the days of

Herod the king,

behold, there came

wise men from the

east to Jerusalem,

Saying, “where is he

that is born King of

the Jews? For we

have seen his star in

the east, and are

come to worship

him”. (Matt 1:1-2)

When Jesus had

reached eight days

old. Mary and Joseph

took Jesus to the

temple for

circumcising, as was

the custom of the day.

A man named Simeon

who had been revealed

to by the holy ghost

that before his death

he would see Jesus

Christ.(Luke 2:21-26)

Simeon was brought

by the holy ghost to

the temple, where he

held the Jesus in his

arms and blessed

God and said “ For

mine eyes have seen

they salvation,

Which thou hast

prepared before the

face of all people.

(Luke 2:21-32)

Anna a prophetess, the

daughter of Phanuel, of the

tribe of Aser; she was of great

age, and had lived with an

husband seven years. . . She

was a widow of about

fourscore and four years,

which departed not from the

temple. But served God with

fastings and prayers night and

day.

She coming in that instant

gave thanks likewise unto the

Lord and spake of him to all

them that looked for

redemption in Jerusalem.

(Luke 2:36-38)

Herod called the

wise men and sent

them to Bethlehem

and said “Go and

search diligently for

the young child: and

when ye have found

him, bring me word

again, that I may

come and worship

him”. (Matt 2:8)

And when they were

come into the house, they

saw the young child with

Mary his mother, and fell

down to worship him:

and when they had

opened their treasures,

they presented unto him

gifts of gold,

frankincense, and myrrh.

And being warned of God

in a dream that they

should not return to

Herod, they departed

into their own country .

(Matt 2:11-12)

The Lord appeared to

Joseph in a dream, saying

“arise, and take the young

child and his mother, and

flee into Egypt, and be

thou there until I bring

the word: for Herod will

seek the young child to

destroy him”.

When he arose, he took

the young child. . . And

was there until the death

of Herod(Matt 2:13-15)

Then Herod, when he

saw that he was mocked

of the wise men, was

exceeding wroth, and

sent forth, and slew all

the children that were

in Bethlehem, and in all

the coasts thereof, from

two years old and under,

according to the time

which he had diligently

enquired of the wise

men. (Matt 2:16)

But when Herod was dead,

behold, an angel of the Lord

appeareth in a dream to

Joseph in Egypt, “saying, arise,

and take the young child and

his mother, and go into the

land of Israel: for they are

dead which sought the young

child’s life”. (Matt 2:19-20)

And he came and dwelt in a

city called Nazareth: that it

might be fulfilled which was

spoken by the prophets, He

shall be called a Nazarene.

(Matt 2:23)

And the child grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon him. (Luke 2:39)

When Jesus was 12

years old, they went

up to Jerusalem. To

celebrate Passover.

After Mary and

Joseph returned, the

child Jesus tarried

behind in Jerusalem;

and Joseph and his

mother knew not of it.

They went back and

looked among their

kinfolk and

acquaintance, but

found him not.

(Luke 2:42-44)

After three days they

found him in the temple,

talking with the elders

and high priest. They

were astonished at his

understanding. And they

were hearing him, and

asking him questions.

Jesus mother scolded

him and Jesus said “How

is it that ye sought me?

wist ye not that I must

be about my father’s

business?” (Luke 2:49)

And Jesus

increased in

wisdom and

stature, and in

favour with God

and man. (Luke

2:52)

Jesus learned to

work beside

Joseph. Like all

Jewish boys, he

studied the

scriptures and

Jewish law.
