Learning to Read and Write

After one year’s teaching, children taught with Jolly Phonics have an average reading age around 12 months ahead of their actual age.

Practical Issues

First Few Days Find a place for your child to sit &

leave. Most children will settle down when

parents have left. The first school term starts Monday

Sept. 2nd. School finishes at 12 noon for the first

2 weeks. Collection at classroom door.

You can help!- Label everything! coats, hats,

lunchboxes, drink bottles, pencil cases etc. - Schoolbags, lunchboxes can be easily

opened and closed by child.- Fruit cut up, straws out of plastic etc.

Skills- Recognise their name.- Hang up coat.- Put on and take off coats and sweatshirts (especially when they have been turned inside out!)- Zip/ button up coat.- Put shoes on the correct feet…velcro

shoes..no laces. - Open and close schoolbags, lunchboxes,

drinks.- Pierce juice carton with straw.- Toilet: Go independently, flush toilet, wash

hands.

Other Booklist - June 18th Progress Folder Medical problems or allergies. Cover books in clear contact. Label front cover of books/copybooks Use homework diaries to communicate with

teacher. Door is always open if you ever need a quick

word. Arrange an appointment for detailed

discussion
