– Not regurgitating old agile techniques– Includes Kanban, Cynefin and Lean Startup

• Very relevant• Very good• Builds on your investment• No need to reinvent anything.

What do people like?• Comprehensive guidance• One-stop shop for agile in a project context• The rationale• The Fix’n’Flex Hexagon (‘Flexagon’)• The Agilometer• Accurate use of the MVP concept• Packed with techniques and up to

date guidance.

Difficult areas/Areas for improvement?• Delivery Team information is complicated

– Because it isn’t straightforward• Differentiating rules from guidelines

– Because it isn’t straightforward• Caters for any level of agile

– Because there are many.

Drive to the conditions!• Agile in a project context needs good judgement• In a BAU context it is easier• You must categorise work appropriately …and don’t believe the myth that projects no longer exist!

PRINCE2 Advantages • International standard for Project Management• Globally it is the most practiced method• 1 million exams taken in PRINCE2 • 21 languages; 120 Countries• Focuses on Governance, Direction and

Management• Emphasising control (Manage by Exception)• Any project anywhere• Already agile enabled!• Tailorable.

PRINCE2 Disadvantages• There are none!• …if used in the right way at the right time• Perceived by some as ‘traditional’ but that isn’t

fair• The guidance says the complete opposite!

Beware prejudice!

Three reasons for the prejudice• You are blissfully ignorant• You are wilfully stupid• You have something to gain form perpetuating the

myths.

Agile Advantages• State of the art• On time• Protects quality• Small batches• Responsive• Fast feedback• Already contains governance• …but this isn’t just an IT thing.

Agile Disadvantages• Nobody knows exactly what it is!• Some BAU concepts don’t cross over to projects

easily• People think it is ‘binary’ or ‘all in’• Self-organisation can be overplayed• It is more than just a mind-set.

The basics of PRINCE2 Agile Myth-busting or stating the obvious?• PRINCE2 is already enabled for agile• PRINCE2 is not a ‘traditional’ PM approach• PRINCE2 Agile is for any project not just IT
