President Message for IOACON 2014 Hon. Secretary Message
Theme of the year: “Cultivate... Research an attitude and learning a passion”
The 59th Annual Conference of Indian Orthopaedic Association will be held in historic, beautiful city of Hyderabad. Hyderabad is famous for jewel, pearls, art, culture and prosperity. The Indian Orthopaedic Association in its 59th year of existence and has achieved the objective of brotherhood among fellow orthopaedic surgeons.
It is a platform to discuss art and science of orthopaedics. Now we should aim to provide minimum standard of care in orthopaedics to one and all. We need to find out credible evidence based solutions to clinical problems unique to India. It is important that we develop an attitude for research and passion for learning so that every experience at treating patients by individuals will add to existing knowledge. The deliberations in Hyderabad will be a step in the direction.
I appeal to all the senior surgeons to present a free paper and participate in discussion to improve the quality of research deliberations. We aim to provide quality scientific programme to make it interactive and productive. The social meeting points are arranged to strengthen the social bonds. Hyderabad IOACON will certainly be milestone event.
The organizing team is awaiting your arrival to Hyderabad.

Dear friends,
Please accept my warm greetings on behalf of Indian Orthopaedic Association!
I am very happy that once again, we are meeting in the beautiful and historic city of Hyderabad for 59th Annual Conference of India Orthopaedic Association. This time, in comparison to the last meeting, the infrastructure available at Hyderabad has improved further and we have a state of the art venue for a big conference and accompanying trade fair.
The success of any conference depends upon the combined efforts of a team and never of an individual. We know that Hyderabad has a tremendous team working for IOACON-2014 and we hope for a wonderful conference.
The scientific programme is expected to be of a very high standard with participation of experienced faculty from all over the nation and abroad. The central programme committee is also committed to remove whatever deficiencies were noticed in previous conferences. The post conference workshops are spread all over the city in different institutions and experts in their fields, are organizing these. Foreign experts are being involved in these workshops, wherever expertise is required.
I humbly request all the senior and junior colleagues to participate in big numbers to present their work. To improve the quality of deliberations, everybody must take part in the discussion, to make them interactive and productive. I express my sincere wishes for the organizing committee and also assure them, on my part, that whatever help is required from the central office, will always be available readily.
I also convey my best wishes to all the members and sincerely hope that every delegate will enjoy one week of IOACON-2014 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) and venue for trade - Hyderabad International Trade exposition (HITEX).
With warm regards,

What is a good Abstract? On the basis of abstract submitted for conference, a decision is taken to accept or reject the paper, hence the paper should be an comprehensive piece of write up conveying the details of the study. The abstract should be Structured - Background, Materials & Methods, Results and Conclusions. The length of abstract should be about 300-350 words.IntroductionBackground: Length 2-3 sentences (about 50 words)It should give a line about current state of knowledge on the subject and lacunae in the current knowledge; hence the present study is conducted. The last line should be what the study is (your research question).Materials & Methods: (About 120 words)It should include what was done and how was it done. It should elaborate on research design, number of patients, inclusion and exclusion criteria to select the patients, what was done. How the outcomes was evaluated. Results: (About 70-80 words)This should give brief and important details of results achieved with statistical details. It should include results of analysis of primary and secondary objectives along with pvalue, important negative findings and any adverse event. Conclusions: (About 30-50 words)Should be an answer to the research question and most important is “take home message”. The conclusion should be based on the observations in result section.
Model AbstractTitle: Component alignment and functional outcome following computer assisted and jig based total knee arthroplastyLad DG, Thilak J, Thadi M.
AbstractIntroduction: Incorrect positioning of the implant and improper alignment of the lime following total knee arthroplasty (TKA) can lead to rapid implant wear, loosening, and suboptimal function. Studies suggest that alignment errors of >3degrees are associated with rapid failure and less satisfactory function. Computer navigated systems have been developed to enhance precision in instrumentation during surgery. The aim of the study was to compare component alignment following computer assisted surgery (CAS) and jig based TKA as well as functional outcome.Materials and Methods: This is a prospective study of 100 knees to compare computer-assisted TKA and jig-based surgery in relation to femoral and tibial component alignment and functional outcome. The postoperative X-rays (anteroposterior and lateral) of the knee and CT scanogram from hip to foot were obtained. The coronal alignment of the femoral and tibial components and rotational alignment of femoral component was calculated. Knee society score at 24 months was used to assess the function. Results: Results of our study show that mean placement of the tibial component in coronal plane(91.3037 degree in navigation group and 90.5444 degrees in jig group) and in case of the mean femoral condylar twist angle (external rotation 2.3406 degrees in navigation group versus 2.3593 degrees in jig group). Conclusions: A significantly improved placement of the component was found in the coronal

City Speaks...Hyderabad, the capital city of Andhra Pradesh and India’s fifth-largest city, is a bustling 400-year-old metropolis with a population of 8 million. Hyderabad was founded in 1590 by Muhammad Quli, the fourth of the Qutb Shahi kings. It was built on the banks of the river Musi, and was surrounded by huge prehistoric rock formations, which are preserved to date. The city is famous as the former seat of the fabulously wealthy Nizams.
It is known for its pearls and Biryani, a gastronomic delight. Hyderabad has a well-preserved cultural heritage. It is a blend of the fairy tale and the earthy simplicity, a potpourri of the old and the new. It is unique in being one of the few cities where tradition and technology coexist. With a dynamic leadership, and conscientious citizens, Hyderabad is steering the nation to new dimensions in the fields of Information Technology, Biotechnology, Medical Science, Pharmaceuticals and Business Management to emerge as a city of immense possibilities. Hyderabad is thus the right venue for IOACON 2014.Birla Mandir is a Hindu temple built of white marble on a 280 feet (85m) high hillock called the Naubath Pahad located to the south of Hussain Sagar. The construction took 10 years and was consecrated in 1976 by Swami Ranganathananda Rakrishna Mission.
