Interwar Period• The Interwar period is understood within
Western culture to be the period between the end of the First World War and the beginning of the Second World War. This is also called the period between the wars or inter-bellum.
The Soldiers• Many soldiers that fought in WW1 received
Inadequate pensions and other payments.
• The Great Depression started when the American stock market crashed on Oct. 29th, 1929. It was the longest, most widespread, and
deepest depression of The 20th century.

Women Suffrage
•Women were finally granted the right to vote in the 1920’s.
Inventions
• The radio, the car, and the airplane were some of the many inventions invented during the Interwar years.
The Chanak Crisis
• The Chanak Crisis showed Britain that Canada could make its own decisions.
The Treaty of Versailles
• The treaty was signed on 28 June 1919, exactly five years after the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand.
Statute of Westminster
• The Statute of Westminster marked the effective legislative independence of Canada and many other countries subordinated from the British Empire.
Prohibition
• The prohibition of alcohol helped spawn the practice of ‘rum-running’, and led to the creation of Speakeasy’s.
Immigration
• Many people immigrated to Canada during the interwar years.
Segregation
• Racial segregation was widespread throughout the interwar years.
The interwar years ended when the
Second World War began.
