FromMarsalatoPalermo,Bagheria,CastelbuonointhefootstepsofMoncada,a“restless”artist

[ART]PALERMO,May2018–IntheyearofPalermoItalianCapitalofCulture2018andManifesta–theEuropeanbiennialofcontemporaryartwithintheprogramoftheSiciliancapital,fromJunetoNovember 2018 – the IgnazioMoncadaArchivepresents a great project dedicated to the artist(Palermo 1932 – Milan 2012). The project will take place in Marsala (Tp) with an exhibition atConventodelCarmine(CarmineConvent)entitled“IgnazioMoncada.Attraversoilcolore”(IgnazioMoncada.Throughthecolour)–fromthe23rdofJunetothe4thofNovember2018-andthecityof Palermo, Bagheria and Castelbuonowith “Attraverso Palermo” (Through Palermo). It is anitineraryamonghistoricalbuildings,medievalcastlesandnoblehouseswithsite-specificartworksand installations implemented by Moncada in the past years. “Attraverso Palermo” is part ofManifesta12CollateralEvents.

“IGNAZIOMONCADA.Throughthecolour”,curatedbySergioTroisiMarsala,CarmineConvent,fromthe23rdofJunetothe4thofNovember2018MarsalaisthephysicalplacewhereyoucanleafthroughthevisualalphabetofIgnazioMoncada,hisfeeling of colour, the tireless painting research focused on the avant-garde heritage, from theFuturism to theAbstractionofConstructivism.Agreatanthological exhibition, curatedby thearthistorianSergioTroisi,which retraces - through50artworks - thewholeproductionofMoncada,fromthegeometricalabstractionsofthe‘60stotheTransparencyinthefollowingdecade,fromtheArcheologicalworkstotheAlesacollectionwhichgivesthefundamentalstothePontArtwork(bigcanvassesonthebuildings’scaffoldingsinMilanduringarestorationproject),untilthe‘90s–2000series dedicated to music, dance and myth: a decorative primitivism plunged into theMediterraneanmemory.TheexhibitioninMarsala,towhichKalòsdedicatedacatalogue,hasbeenorganizedby“CityofMarsala” theExhibition InstituteofContemporaryPaintingwith the IgnazioMoncadaArchive.

“IGNAZIOMONCADA.ThroughPalermo”Palermo/Bagheria/CastelbuonoPalazzoBranciforte/VillaCattolicaandVillaTrabia/CastelloVentimigliaDuringManifesta12 the European biennial (Palermo, 16 June – 4 November 2018) the IgnazioMoncadaArchiveisofferingafascinatingitineraryamongthehistoricalbuildings,medievalcastlesandnoblehousesinsearchoftheartworksofthisman,“restless”enoughtobealsoconsideredacontemporaryartist.The launchevent is theopeningof the“restless artist room”, atVilla Trabia (Bagheria), a roomcoveredbyMoncadain1995usingpolychromeceramic,whichisenclosedinaseriesofbedroomsuitesonthegroundflooroftheeighteen-centuryhousewheretodaythefamilystilllives.Bookingonwww.ignaziomoncada.orgTheitinerary“ThroughPalermo”onthefootstepsonMondacaincludes:

• PalazzoBranciforte (Palermo),wheretheceilingofthe library–restoredbyGaeAulenti–hashostedsince2012abigwallpainting(28x8meters)

• Bagheria(Pa).InadditiontoVillaTrabiaandtothe“Restlessartistroom”,therewillalsobea stop at Guttuso Museum. Three great canvasses - “Le Rappresentazioni” (TheRepresentations)- will be exposed with the artwork “Archeologie Astratte” (AbstractArcheologies - 1979), within the permanent collection, a production dating back to 2000dedicatedtotheMetamorfosidelMito“MythMetamorphosis”andtheceramicsculpture“Ilpallottoliere”(Theabacus)willbeexposedinsidethe“gipsoteca”(theplastercastsgallery).

• Castelbuono (Pa).TheMuseoCivico (CivicMuseum) (atVentimigliaCastle)willenlarge itspermanent collection with the purchase of “La maga Circe” (Circe, the witch), an acrylicartworkdatingbackto2002.

Apapervademecum isdedicatedto this initiative, inspiredto thegraphicmarkofMoncada.Thispreciouspaperbrochure -besides containing theuser informationofPalermo thecultural sites -becomesa3Dminiatureofthe“restlessartistroom”andtheoriginaldraftofMoncadahasbeenprintedonthebackofaposterfortheBrancifortePalace’sceiling.ThearchitecturefirmRuggeroMoncadacreatedthisgraphicproject.
