Built at the end of the XVIIIth century on the site of an ancient fondouk (storehouse), the “sleeping beauty” as it is called here, was once the home of the Caïd Mbark Saïdi.

At a later date the house was bought by a wealthy merchant and turned into an orphanage until the end 1960s, after which it was abandoned for the next thirty years, until a family and friends all native from Essaouira purchased the building.

After more than three years of reconstruction and renovations, the Heure Bleue Palais finally re-opened its doors in June 2004.

Today it is one of the establishments that Essaouira is most proud of, as many of the city’s finest craftsmen excelled themselves with the high quality of their work on the hotel.

The Palais has successfully retained the cachet of a traditional Moroccan house, whilst offering all the comforts of a luxury hotel.
