1. Indian Production for Toor Whole & Black Matpe is stable.
2. Quota has been announced for 400,000 Mts of Toor, 400,000 Mts of Black Matpe & 150,000 Mts of GMB, total of 0.95 Million Mts.
3. MOU between India & Mozambique for 175,000 Mts of pulses which will be mainly Toor Whole over & above quota.
4. Even together with Indian Quota & MOU, still looks like there is not enough Green Mung available.
5. Government of India have some Buffer stocks of Toor Whole which is enough to cover shortage.
6. Government agencies are playing a vital role for managing demand/ supply & shortage in Indian market.
7. Toor has been distributed in PDS in Tamil Nadu, Andra Pradesh & Karnataka, hence good demand Government side.
8. Under Government Scheme of "Garib Kalyan Yojana", Government has become consumer of various pulses.
9. With Covid19, people are consuming more & more pulses as easy to store and consume for longer period. At least 10% increase in
demand.
10. Overall demand will be good for Black Matpe, Mung Beans & Toor Whole in India.

1. Production remain consistent in Mozambique due to MOU with India for export of
175,000 Mts of Pulses - Mainly Toor & GMB.
2. Carry over in Mozambique is minimum as people need to complete their commitment
under ICM quota.
3. Farmers decided to switch to other crops like Maize & Chickpeas in Tanzania; Maize &
Soybeans in Malawi due to more stability and more buyers.

1. Myanmar Harvest time is between Jan - March for Toor & Black Matpe. Green Mung is harvested few times a year.
2. Due to India Quota for Toor, Mung, Black Matpe, Myanmar production remain stable & better from last year.
3. Myanmar prices are heavily dependent on Indian markets mainly for Toor & Black Matpe. For Green Mung, Myanmar has lot more
destinations.
4. Other markets for Black Matpe from Myanmar are Pakistan, Middle East, Nepal, Bangladesh & others
5. Green Mung production went up due to good demand from China & South East Asia & carry over is Zero.
6. Whole S&D overall depends on various Government Policy's from time to time & prices @ Origin & Destinations.
7. More & more processing plants are built in Myanmar, mainly for exports.

1. Possibilities of increase in crop production will be low as price of 2019 crop are not favourable to farmers, hard to see how much to
decrease.
2. For Covid19 Impact, at least 1-2 months consumptions slow down, other impact are still not clear to see until now.
3. Production drop in China as Government policy is providing subsidiaries to farmers who plant Soya beans, stable return for farmers
4. Low return by GMB as price are too low due to cheaper price from different origins.
5. Labour shortages: farmers under 45 years old getting less and less.
6. Importing Officially allowed: Burma, Australia, Indonesia, Ethiopia, Uzbekistan.
7. Importing through Vietnam by border trade: Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, African countries.
8. Main exporting countries are Japan, Taiwan, Europe, U.S.A. mostly for sprouting purpose.
9. Main use of GMB in China is for Sprouting, soup and congee in hot days, which are believed to be healthy according to traditional Chinese
medicine.

1. Venezuela has started producing Mung Beans and with current demand, production is expected to increase.
2. GMB is mainly produced due to demand from International market.
3. Main buying markets are China, Turkey, Dubai, India, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam & EU.
4. There is only one veriety of GMB produced there unlike other countries with few verities.
5. Venezuela is exporting since last 3 years and have their own grading, cleaning & polishing facility.
6. For GMB, there is only showing period, which is around October.
7. Exporters prefer to grow GMB as they can generate foreign exchange which is required for their growth.
8. No government restriction as not consumed locally, Suitable for local soil & climate.

Black Matpe Import1. Pakistan Production, Import & Consumption for Black Matpe has been stable & very
consistent.
2. For Green Mung Beans, both production & consumption has gone up.
3. There has been good demand seen in Pakistan for Import of GMB.
4. Pakistan also get BMP through Chamman Border of Afghanistan which is quite less.
5. 2020 Crop Harvest not done, demand more or less stable. Also price is important factor
for consumption.
6. Pakistan has imported GMB in 2020 due to shortage/spot demand.
7. Major supplying country for GMB is Tanzania, Kenya, Myanmar, Brazil and Argentina
