EMERSON ELEMENTARY Get Really Excited About Today!
Welcome Back Emerson Students and Parents! I want to thank all of you that came out to our annual Back to School Night! The staff and I are excited to have the students back and start a brand new school year! It was fun to see and talk with many of the students and families roaming around Emerson during that very warm evening.
We have a theme that we will be using for the 2015-2016 school-year. Our theme this year is G.R.E.A.T. which stands for Get Really Excited About Today. You will see this theme interwoven into many activities in the coming year.
There are some new faces at Emerson this year. Venturing onto our awesome staff is Mrs. Mandi Cicalo as one of our Title I teachers. Mrs. Cicalo taught Kindergarten in Waterford before coming to Owosso. We are also welcoming Mrs. Jessica Anderson to Emerson as a First Grade teacher. Mrs. Anderson taught in Georgia before returning to Owosso this summer. Mrs. Ashley Thornton has also joined the Emerson team in the role of 4th grade teacher. Mrs. Thornton knows Emerson very well due to the fact that she did her Student Teaching in 3rd grade with Mrs. Wertz two years ago! All three are positive additions to the al-ready sensational Emerson staff! We just keep getting better and better!
There will be a Rock-n-Run (the new style of fundraising) meeting next Thursday, Sept. 17th at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center at Emerson. This will be an opportunity for anyone that would like to be involved with the fundraiser to learn about and express interest in the many areas it takes to make a donation-based fundraiser. I look forward to seeing you on Thursday evening.
We will be sending a paper copy of the Parent Letter through the month of October. After that, if you wish to receive the Parent Letter, please log on to the www.owosso.k12.mi.us. Once you are there, select Schools towards the top of the page and under that drop down, select Emerson. On the bottom left hand side Emerson page, there is a link titled, “Notify Me”. Click that and you will then be signing up for an email of school-related items that come from Emerson. You will have to verify your email when the mes-sage comes to your inbox to actually start receiving the emails and text messages (if you sign up for text messages).
Have you heard the news??? Owosso Public Schools will be asking the community for a bond proposal on November 3rd. The proposal is one that will benefit every student that attends Owosso Public Schools, es-pecially the elementary students because they are the students that will get to enjoy the new facilities and upgrades for their entire school career! There are pictures of the proposed upgrades in both the entry ar-ea of the office as well as in the gym. Please take a look at those and if you have further questions, please stop in and chat with me! I want you to be as educated as possible for the November 3rd election day.
Please be reminded not to park or stop and drop in the designated bus drop off area on Dewey Street. The area is marked with large orange cones. Please drop your child off either in back of or in front of the cones. If you wish to park and walk your child across the street, please park on the east side of Dewey Street and use the crossing guard. Thank you for your help in keeping all of our students and families safe!
I am very excited about the new school year! I look forward to interacting with as many of you as possible and as often as possible. I encourage you to stop in anytime, I have an “open door policy”. I would love to discuss with you the many ways that you can become involved at Emerson.
Here’s to a fantastic year ahead. Thank you in advance for being a part of our terrific Emerson TEAM that is ready for a G.R.E.A.T. year!
Have a fantastic weekend! As always, Go STATE, Go Tigers and GO TROJANS!

Image & Name Release
There has been some questions concerning the
lack of an Image and Name Release form in the
Student Handbook. Last year we started using a
checkbox on the back of the Student Enrollment form. You
should have checked Yes/No and signed the back of the form
during Open House. We will be checking those forms and be in
contact with you if need be.
