Greetings from the Baron & Baroness of Rowany
nto the populace of Rowany do Miles and Ameline send warmest greetings.
As we head into the second half of the year, we find ourselves reminiscing on recent events while also
looking forward to what the rest of the year might hold. Most notably in recent weeks, we had the
privilege of attending the Midwinter Coronation event as stewarded by the
esteemed talent of the College of St Ursula.
Against the stunning backdrop of the Sydney University Great Hall, this was an
event I know we will all remember for a long time to come. Huge recognition
and thanks to the stewarding team and all their helpers - this was an event to
be proud of.
We have also in recent months had the chance to travel near and far. In May we travelled south to
Krae Glas, where we witnessed the selection of our current Crown; in June Miles journeyed to Innilgard
to celebrate Innilgard's 30th Anniversary and Baronial Changeover; earlier this month we travelled to
our nearest neighbours for the Tocal event for another Baronial Changeover; and we are now just
home from the Feast of Santiago, for St Florian's 15 year anniversary. It has been lovely to see so many
members of Rowany's populace wayfaring across the kingdom also at these events. If you have the
opportunity to do so, we highly recommend it; it is a great way to see the different ways that other
groups play, as well as make new friendships across the Kingdom.
At Midwinter Coronation, we also saw the changeover of two of Rowany's officers. We thank Tanya for
her momentous service as Rowany's Seneschal, and welcome Unnr to the role. We also say thank you
to Juliana, stepping down as our A&S officer, and welcome Annabel as her successor. We have also
been remiss in welcoming Anna as Rowany's new list officer. We understand that applications are also
currently open for Rowany's Marshal. The Barony of Rowany is very fortunate in having such a talented
group of officers, and we thank them all for their service, both past and present. It is worth mentioning
that only a few of our officers currently have deputies, so if you were thinking of volunteering at any
stage for a Rowany or Kingdom office, deputy is a good way of learning the ropes.
Miles et Ameline
Rowany
Greetings from the Seneschal Greetings all, due to possible locations for Rowany Yule becoming booked out in the coming weeks,
combined with the possibility of using Marrickville Town Hall, the following timeline has been set for Yule
Feast bids:
Expressions of Interest due . We are seeking a basic ‘hands up’ of who would like to
submit a more detailed bid for Yule, and if Marrickville Town Hall would be used (so a booking can
be confirmed if this is the preferred location)
Final bids due from all those that supplied an expression of interest. It is to include the
full bid details.
It will tentatively be held on Saturday 10th December, as to not clash with William Marshall in Stormhold,
but if that is not available the second preference would be 3rd December. If you would like to make a
bid, but aren't sure how, remember we have a lot of very talented people who will be very happy to
help you. Please do not hesitate to contact me at rowanyseneschal@gmail.com if you have any
questions.

A Word from the Arts & Sciences Officer Greetings! I was delighted to step up at that fantastic Midwinter. Many thanks to their Excellencies for
being so accommodating with Court and to Juliana de Northwood for her hard work as outgoing Arts
and Sciences officer.
At the moment, I want to catch up on how arts and sciences are being performed in the Barony. I am
fortunate to have spoken to several people about this already, and by the time this is published, I
should have had a chance to drop in to a couple of the Barony’s current practices – St Ursula and
Stowe on the Wowld.
I also had a bit of fun after the Senate meeting, when we ran through two little songs – Whip little Davids
Bome and Miri it is. Hopefully we can publish sheet music and audio files of these soon for anyone who
wants to learn them. Do let me know if you have any ideas you would like to share about Arts and
Sciences in Rowany. I can be reached at rowanyartsandsciences@gmail.com.

Introductions from the Nominated Acquisitor
Hello fellow Scadians, I am William Redfox, I have been playing for a number of years, I have had a
great interest in high medieval England late 12th to early 14th since my teens.
My persona is early 13th Norman. I like to do leatherwork, sewing, art,
calligraphy, cooking and archery, and soon a return to heavy. My primary study
has been both of the Barons wars and those involved, ten years into a research
project so far. I have held a few senior office positions including Hospitaller and
Seneschal of Okewaite.
In the mundane world, I work for a structural engineering firm as a business
development manager. I have three grown children, and now live in the inner
west of Sydney with my partner.
YIS
Lord William Redfox
Baronial Office of Acquisitor I am delighted to announce that William Redfox has applied for the role of Rowany Acquisitor. The
commentary period is now open, and will be closing midnight, Wednesday the 3rd of August. Please
send all comments to rowanysenechal@gmail.com.

Baronial Regalia
Part of the Barony's crucial regalia are thrones, both for the local Baron & Baroness, and also for when
Rowany is graced with the presence of the Crown. Our current Kingdom thrones are thirty years old,
and while this means they are steeped in history, they have finally succumbed to its weight. While we
will be investigating options of repair, based on the level of damage, we do not feel that they will return
to being a reliable option. It was raised at our most recent Senate meeting to create new Royal thrones
for the Barony. We would like to hear from anyone and everyone who has both skills and opinions on
this subject. This may be a multi stage project, however time is of the essence for at the least the first
phase: a useable chair. The basic requirements that were discussed at the meeting were that they must
be suitable for an armoured Crown of any build, and also must be reasonably flat-packable for
transport in a standard sedan. Further criteria will understandably be identified and discussed over the
course of this project.
In terms of regalia, Rowany as a Barony does not have perpetual coronets. Rowany is one of two
Baronies in the Kingdom without perpetual coronets of any sort, however some groups do also have
precedence where the perpetual coronets are used for invest & devest, and then for reasons of
comfort & preference, individual coronets may be used for the duration. At the Baronial Senate
meeting, we raised the question about whether Rowany should consider investing in a set of coronets
for future successors to the Barony.
It was agreed at the meeting that discussions of this sort should actively involve the participation of the
wider Barony. In coming weeks, our seneschal will be arranging an appropriate forum for this discussion,
and we will be especially encouraging our predecessors to offer their perspective. A decision of this
nature should not be rushed, and there is not a specific timeline for this discussion.

If you have anything that you would like added to the agenda, please let me know. There is
also time set aside for general business if there is something that you wish discussed that is not
on the agenda.
Also, if you cannot attend, but wish to have something raised, please email me at
rowanyseneschal@gmail.com and I will raise it on your behalf. Alternately, there is the option to

Everyone is welcome to attend!
