STROKE DIESEL ENGINE
1.ABEL’S FLASH POINT APPARATUS
Aim: To determine the flash point of diesel and kerosene.
Apparatus: Abel’s flash point apparatus, thermometers.
Flash point: lowest temperature at which the volatile material (fuel) can vaporize to form an ignitable mixture in air.
Fire point: temperature at which fuel continue to burn for at least 5 s after ignition by an open flame.
1.ABEL’S FLASH POINT APPARATUS
Closed cup method is used.Cup is placed in water bath with heater.Temperature range: 180C to 700CFire point = flash point + 100C.
FLASH POINT TEMPERATURES
Crude oil = -100C to 00CKerosene = 280C to 550CLube oil = 1300C to 3000CGasoline = -400C to 300CDiesel = >550CFuel = >660C
