Embedding Metadata in Image Files:Adobe Bridge

Adobe Bridge is software bundled in Adobe Creative Suite 2. It allows, among other things, the embedding of user-specified metadata in image files.

Accessing Bridge

Using the Browsing window or the Foldersand Favorites window, find the directory where your images are stored

Click on the Bridge iconor

Setting PreferencesThe type and amount of metadata saved for each image can bespecified in the Preferences. Go to Bridge > Perferences. Click Metadata in the list on the left.

Place a checkmark beside the Supports XMP box. ThePreferences will remain thenext time you open Bridge,but it’s a good idea to check.

Click OK

Entering Data

Clicking on an image in the Browsing window will bring up theInformation embedded in that image in the Metadata window.Information can be appended simply by entering it field by field.

If you try to select another imageor move to the Keywords tab,a dialog box will open asking if you want to apply your changes.Click Apply.

You can also apply your changesby clicking on the checkmarkat the lower right of the Metadatatab.

Keywords

Keywords can be assigned under the Keywords tab. Click on the arrowat the top right and select New Keyword Set. Name the set and hitthe return key. To add keywords to the new set, again click the arrowat the top right and select New Keyword. Type the new keyword and hit the return key. Assign the keyword by clicking the checkbox to the left of the word.

Keywords can be movedfrom set to set by clickingand dragging them upand down the list.

The Keywords will now appear in theKeywords field of the Metadata tab.
