pany's upcoming production, "The
Wake". Tickets $8 at the door.....,...
The Wake In June of 1999 Granville Island will
begin its celebrations of its 20th An
niversary as Vancouver's favourtie mar
ketplace. This vital and historic location
will now be the venue for the Electric
Company's next original production.
The Wake combines a fictitious
tale with real history to create a legend
unique to the City of Vancouver.
At the chosen site for The Wake,
a sign points out that there are often
hidden hazards in the water of False
Creek; jagged shards of metal resting
underwater. Like these artifiacts, The
Wake reminds us that our often forgot
ten history is never far below the sur
face.
This project represents further ex
ploration of our style: a sensory ap
proach to storytelling. Poetic natural
ism is underscored with vibrant physi- .
cality and surreal imagery in the collec
tive works of Kim Collier. David Hudgins,
Kevin Kerr, and Jonathon Young.
The Wake is a prominade play and
will run June 2-13, 1999 in an outdoor
setting on Granville Island's south
side.....,...

Super 8. Theatre Under the Gun
In December the Vancouver East Cultural Centre sponsors a brand new festival of theatre - theatre that's raw, hip, inspired, and exhilarating. Theatre Under the Gun is the creation of eight eager up-and-coming companies who have only 24 hours to create a new piece of work, inspired by ideas drawn from a hat. Look for work from our company as well as En Avant Theatre Co., Neworld Theatre, Out West, Persimmons, Theatre Bagger, Theatre SKAM, and A Western Theatre Conspiracy. Performance times at the (ultch December 3-5.,
(((Progress*** It's safe to say, we're making some
headway. This season, the Eledric Company delves further into their
developing approach to theatre creation. Starting with rehearsals in November, the troupe will work with images for their June production of "The Wake". We will
experiment with theatrical form and new images in an intesive three-day lab. Our new material will begin to see the light of day at the end of November in a private rehearsal demonstration called "Progress". Our thanks to the Vancouver Playhouse for their gift of rehearsal space.,
ThankYoulI

Eledric Company Theatre Society is a not-far-profit, producing theatre company dedicated to the development of new Canadian theatre with an emphasis on physical and visual imagery.
We strive to create theatre that is life-affirming, inspiring and provocative, and to promote theatre as an educative and cultural experience to the general public and the larger community through productions, workshops, tours and other related means.
We believe in theatre that is accessible: financially and thematically. We wish to challenge the conventions of theatre while preserving a strong sense of story..#'
Well, we were going to be modest, but... aw, heck. We won those five Jessies we were going on about in the last issue of EledroScope.
