KATRA, Jan 7: A MataVaishno Devi pilgrim fromMaharashtra was found deadunder mysterious circumstanceson Banganga road, here today.

The deceased was identifiedas Vishno Sonaba, son ofSonaba Mohatay of villageBaneri, Pune in Maharashtra.He apparently died while pro-ceeding towards the caveshrine.

The dead body was broughtto CHC Katra for legal formali-ties while Police has registereda case in this connection for fur-ther investigation.

Former Army Chief Gen JJSingh today joined the rulingShiromani Akali Dal and is set totake on Punjab CongressPresident Amarinder Singh fromPatiala Urban seat in the February4 state assembly elections.

71-year-old Singh, who alsoserved as the Governor ofArunachal Pradesh, joined theSAD here this evening in thepresence of party president andPunjab Deputy Chief MinisterSukhbir Singh Badal.

Badal told reporters GenSingh had himself shown interest

in contesting from Patiala UrbanAssembly seat.

Five new IITs get Directors as Prez okays HRD proposalNEW DELHI, Jan 7:

President Pranab Mukherjeehas approved an HRD ministryproposal appointing Directors tofive new IITs of Tirupati,Palakkad, Bhilai-Durg, Goa andDharwad.

All the five Directors have

been appointed for a period offive years.

According to sources, Prof KN Satyanarayana had beenappointed as the Director of IITTirupati in Andhra Pradeshwhile Prof P B Sunil Kumar hasbeen appointed as the Directorof IIT Palakkad, Kerala.

Prof Rajat Moona has beenappointed the Director of IITBhilai-Durg while Prof B KMishra, the Director of IIT Goa.

For IIT Dharwad inKarnataka the name of ProfSeshu Pasumarthy has beenapproved by the President,sources said. (PTI)
