Birds will not be accepted after specified entry times unless there has been prior
approval by a Poultry Superintendent.
Poultry/Waterfowl/Rare Birds/Pigeons Specific Rules:

2. Entries will be accepted in any pure breed of standard or bantam poultry, ducks,
geese, turkeys, guineas, pigeons and any other rare bird
(i.e. pheasant, quail, peafowl, etc.)
3. A $1.00 caging fee per bird will be collected at check in time.
4. Birds showing symptoms of disease or infestation when received or during
the show may be destroyed and/or returned to exhibitor.
5. Poultry will not be released without approval and supervision of a
Black Hills Poultry Society Member on duty.
6. Poultry classes are labeled by both class and lot. (Class #s: 10-37 and
Lot #s: 1-6). For other classes; (Use lot number for equivalent sex).
7. Decisions are entirely of the judge(s) and are FINAL.

9. Pen of three may be shown individually at no extra charge.
10. Youth Division is ages 5 - 18. You must be at least 5 years
old to enter and exhibit a bird.
11. There is a limit on entries for the building of 40 birds per flock to be able to
be shown through any division, minus the BHPS contest.
12. Rules are subject to change at the superintendent's discretion.
Entries must arrive at the building Saturday,August 21 from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

PLEASE BE AWARE AND READ ALL THE POULTRY HEALTH REGULATIONS
A completed Certificate of Veterinary Inspection (CVI), listing individual animal official
identification must accompany all animals exhibited at the Central States Fair. The
CVI must be issued within 30 days of Fair entry. CVI’s written for animals originating
from outside the State of South Dakota must have a telephone import permit
number listed on the certificate. The consignee must be listed as: Central States Fair,
800 San Francisco St, Rapid City, SD 57701.
Exhibitors must have a separate (CVI) for each species (all poultry, waterfowl, rare
birds, and pigeons may be together on one CVI) of animal exhibited. It is the intention
of Black Hills Poultry Society (BHPS) to have a licensed veterinarian on site to issue
CVI’s for poultry at a discounted rate. BHPS will also have an area for pullorum
typhoid testing at a discounted rate. (Turkeys older than 4 months must come from
NPIP source or be tested prior to fair.)
Animals must be free of signs of communicable and infectious disease at the time of
entry onto the Fairgrounds. Any determination of the health status of an animal will
be at the discretion of the veterinarian the poultry barn has available at check in. All
exhibition poultry must originate from a pullorum typhoid clean source or the
equivalent or be officially tested and found free of pullorum typhoid within 90 days
prior to exhibition. Test information or source status must be listed on the CVI.
All poultry must have an identifying leg band (name, numbers, letters, or a
combination of these). Black Hills Poultry Society will have leg bands available at
$0.50 each at check in.
