DEMAND IN THE METROPOLITAN POLICE
The population of London is approximately 8..4Mpeople …… There were 30,711 Police Officers
in March 2014
On a typical day in the Metropolitan Police ……There is approximately one officer on duty for every 886
people living in the force area
Officers will deal with – amongst other crimes – 153 dwelling burglaries, 632 thefts, 173 thefts from a motor vehicle, 64 thefts of a motor vehicle, 394 violent crimes, 62 robberies, 37 sexual offences including 13 rapes.
They will issue 75 cautions, 30 Penalty Notices for Disorder and 53 Cannabis Warnings
Approximately 5,035 999 calls are received
Approximately 2,377 crimes are reported
Approximately 10,575 incidents are recorded
Respond to approximately 165
incidents, flagged as being associated with
people with mental health
issues
Attend 66 road traffic collisions where there were
casualties
Carry out 798 stop and searches. Of
these 525 are drugs related .
Of the 798 stop and searches 128 will
result in an arrest
Respond to approximately 116
missing person reports. Just under 82 will be classified as medium risk and
7 as high risk
Deal with 358 calls relating to ASB
Undertaking just over 4 place of safety orders
under Section 136 of the Mental Health Act every
day
In addition to reacting to calls for service from the public, on a typical day the police will also be undertaking proactive work to
safeguard the public including:
Managing approximately 10,000 sexual and violent offenders under Multi-Agency Public Protection Arrangements in partnership with other local bodies
Supporting 6961 children and young people subject to a Child Protection Plan
Supporting 11,521 families enrolled in the
troubled families programme
Supporting 9,062 domestic abuse victims
being discussed at Multi-Agency Risk Assessment
Conferences of these19% were repeats
As well as dealing with crime,
