What will I learn?
3 important things
ISO
Aperture
Shutter speed
ISO
Also known as film speed
Measures cameras sensitivity to light
Measured by a range of numbers
Range from 800-3200. Results in grainy photos. Good for fast
moving objects and low light scenarios.
High ISO
Range from 60-400. Results in good saturation of color. Good for
still objects with high available light.
Low ISO
Aperture
Also known as F-stop
Measure of the lenses iris opening
A range of numbers from (usually) 2.8-22
Control depth of field
Depth of Field
Shallow
F2.8
Far
F22
Shutter Speed
The amount of time that light is allowed to reach
the image sensor
Measured in a rage from full seconds to fractions
of a second.
“30” - 1/1000
Blurs of Freezes Motion
Range from 30 seconds to 1/60 of a second. Results in blurred
motion and a “painterly” effect.
Slow Shutter Speed
Range from 1/100 of a second to 1/4000 of a second. Results in
frozen motion. Good for action shots.
Fast Shutter Speed
Quiz time…
You are at little Timmy’s dance recital, what do you
think your ISO setting may be?
You want to freeze the hunky basketball star in mid
air while he hits the winning jump shot. What setting
do you think will help you with this?
What kind of depth of field works best for the perfect
portrait of your guinea pig named Nickels?
