WHAT IS CONVERGENCE IN MGNREGA ?
• MGNREGA has workforce in the form of registered wage-seekers
• It also has financial resources
• It seeks participation of other Departments/ Programs with their
Labor intensive programs having scope of livelihood generation/ development of infrastructure conducive to livelihood

THE MANDATE• In terms of expenditure, not less
than 20 percent of financial resources in MGNREGS in a year will be utilized for works taken up in convergence
• Focus of convergence will be on development of assets capable of enhancing livelihood• A part of the works will generate direct asset at the household level for ST/ SC/ BPL households and beneficiaries of IAY and Land Reforms There will be a ‘nodal officer for
convergence’ in each of the converging departments

CONVERGENCE WITH CADC• CADC under the Comprehensive Area
Development Program has its farms and expertise, especially in nursery raising, plantation related activities
• CADC can work in convergence with MGNREGS by sharing its expertise in these spheres
• It may also act as the PIA and raise nurseries on its own land and also through capacity building of the SHGs
• Any innovative project where resource sharing is proposed is welcome for convergence
CONVERGENCE WITH OTHER PROGRAMS OF THE P&RD
DEPARTMENT• BRGF/ Fund for Backward villages/FC
Grants/ Fund received under ISGPP/ Own Resources of the Panchayats may be pooled for meeting capital cost of MGNREGS
• In IAY, Rs.12,000.00 / Rs.12,500.00 worth of unskilled wages may be added to the approved cost of construction of houses
• This can also be utilized for any other rural housing program
• All Widow pension receiving families may be provided with 100 days of work under MGNREGS as a mandatory guarantee
CONVERGENCE WITH AGRICULTURE
• In identified watershed areas, Agriculture Department may prepare intervention plan synchronized with MGNREGS
• Any labor intensive work, on land owned by the ST/SC/BPL families and the beneficiaries of Land Reforms and IAY may be planned from MGNREGS
• In common property resources within watershed, MGNREGS support is possible
• All other works may be taken up under Watershed program, thereby pulling resources of both the programs
• Compost pits, azola cultivation, vermin composting to enhance productivity may be planned by the Agriculture Deptt
• Different work in the agriculture farms (Department-owned) may also be taken up with MGNREGS support
